Game three of the 2016 sea-
son was played on Avon’s new
turf field on a sun-drenched
Sunday afternoon. This game
wouldbehighlightedby the Ju-
niorKnights’bestTEAMdefen-
sive effort of the year. LeRoy’s
defenseswarmed to the football
all day with many Avon plays
ending with multiple Knights
surrounding the ball carrier.
The scoring for the Knights
beganon theirfirstpossessionof
the game. For the secondweek
in row, the LeRoy offense was
helped by a defensive offsides
penalty to start thegame. After
short gains by Adam Wood-
worth, Luke Lathan and Jake
Higgins and another offsides
on the defense set up 2 & 1
at Avon’s 42 yard line, Adam
Woodworth broke free on the
right side for a 42 yard touch-
down run. Luke Lathan pow-
ered it home for the extra point
givingLeRoyanearly8-0 lead.
LeRoy’s defense set the tone
onAvon’s first possession forc-
ing them to turn theballoveron

Avon’s 31.
The Knights took 5 plays to
extend thescore to14–0. Adam

from another offsides penalty,
theLeRoyoffensive lineopened
a huge hole allowing Adam
Woodworth toscoreuntouched.
Avon’s longest play of the
game came on their next pos-
session when #17 Ricky Flora
got freeup themiddlehowever,
Connor Elmore made a touch-
down saving tackle onLeRoy’s
43 yard line. Avon would lose
yardageon their next four plays
turning the ball over on downs.
LeRoy would turn the ball
over on their next two pos-
sessions however, the defense
“picked them up”. Avon was
not allowed positive yardage
on either of their next two turns
with the football, the latter giv-
ingLeRoy theball atAvon’s20.
On the first play of their
next possession, Jake Higgins
hooked up with Jude Sherman
on a 13yardpass down to the 7
yard line.LukeLathanbarreled

score 20 – 6.
On Avon’s final possession
of the half, DJ O’Geen forced
a fumble that was recovered by
Avon. Afteragreat teamdefen-
sive effort by DJ O’Geen, Joey
Reschke and Connor Elmore,
LukeLathan picked off the last
play of the half for his first in-
terception of the season.
LeRoy’sscoring in thesecond
half was limited to a 40 yard
drive early in the 3rd quarter.
Again, all four LeRoy running
backs contributed with Sher-
man, Lathan, Woodworth and
Higgins teaming together to set
up 1 goal from the 3 yard line
where JakeHiggins scampered
