Happy 2016!
January is
“Wellness Month”
atLeRoyCentral SchoolDistrict.
Like 49%of the country, we have
turned our thoughts to a new year
and improving overall health and
wellness. Throughout the month,
the Le RoyWellness Committee,
chaired by Jackie Rehberg, Lau-
rieLocke, andMichelleSherman,
have designed a variety of activ-
ities that hope to encourage our
youth, and the entire community,
tomake healthy choices.
There are several community
events planned that we hope you
will consider attending. The first
was held this past Thursdaywith
Dr. Dan Mruzek, from the Uni-
versityofRochester, speakingon
the importance of sleep. Getting
quality sleep is vital to overall
health and has been linked to
improved achievement for stu-
dents.Dr.Dan sharedavarietyof
ideas to help families tackle the
bedtime routine. Dr. Dan is one
of our favorite presenters. If you
missed this opportunity, he will
be back later in the year to speak
about another health topic.
The week of January 11th
through the 15th, both the
Wolcott Street School and the
Jr./Sr. High School will engage
in daily activities to promote
healthy living. From Fusion
Dance, to eating new vegetables
and fruits, to bowling, each day
will feature a different activity to
celebrateWellness!
Put Thursday, January 14th on
your calendar! This will be the
Celebrity “Chopped” Show
,
held in the Jr./Sr. High School
cafeteria at 6:00 pm. Like the
television show, local celebrity
chefs, along with amateurs from
the faculty and staff, will put
their culinary skills to the test.
Our ownCoachMoranwill em-
cee the event. Can’t wait to see
who survives the challenge!
Finally, on Thursday, January
28th, from 6:00-7:00 pm in the
High School Library, Christine
Gephardtwill speakabout the im-
pact of anxiety on health. Many
of you know Christine from her
local counseling role. Christine
has a wealth of knowledge and
will share ways to proactively
manage stress and anxietybefore
it takes a toll onyour health.
