The Junior Knights traveled
toYork forgamefiveof the2016
season. LeRoy startedwith the
ball at their own 35 after York
won the toss and chose to de-
fer. An offsides on the defense
and runs of 2 yards by Adam
Woodworthand6yardsbyLuke
LathangaveLeRoy1st and10at
York’s 48 yard line. However,
York’s defense stiffened and
stopped Woodworth 3 yards
short on 4th and 8.
York’sfirst possessionbegan
at their own 45 yard line. Aaric
Lucemade his presence felt ear-
ly, fighting off the lead blocker
and burying the running back
for a 4 yard loss. Faced with
2nd and 14 from their 41 yard
line, York quarterback Parker
Bonafede got loose down the
sidelineandsprinted59yards for
a touchdown. Bonafede followed
up his runwith a rare kick for a
two point conversion. York 8 –
LeRoy 0.
It tookonly twosnaps forLe-
Roy to answer and tie the game
at 8 – 8 as AdamWoodworth
burst through the right side for
65yards and followed it upwith
another runoff the right side for
the PAT. LeRoy 8 –York 8
On York’s first play of their
next possession, Jack Egeling
burst through the line forcing
and recovering a fumble giving
LeRoy the ball right back at
York’s 35 yard line.
A fumbled snap, followedby

line. Runs of 6 yards by Jude

Woodworth and 3 and 10 yards

next snap, JudeShermanmade a
nifty cutback and pranced into
the end zone. The PAT failed.

Yorkwent backwards on the
first two plays of their next pos-
session setting up 3rd and long.
York nearly executed a double
pass if not for the perfect cover-
age by safety BraedenMathieu.
Faced with 4th and long, York
chose to punt the ball away giv-
ingLeRoypossessionat theYork
43 yard line.
OnLeRoy’s next possession,
they drove the ball down to
York’s 25 yard line before turn-
ing the ball over.
AdamWoodworth quickly
“picked up” his teammates as
he recognized pass on York’s
second play, stepped in front of
the receiver for the interception
and raced 25 yards for a touch-
down. Woodworth followed up
his “PickSix” by running in the
extra point. LeRoy 22 –York 8
Down 22 – 8, York again
looked to their passing game
to attempt tomove the football.
LeRoy’s pass rush led by Aaric
Luce and Carson Caton teamed
upwithgreat coveragebyCorbin
Russell, Brayden Chase and
AvanteWalker. After an 8 yard
sack byAaric Luce set up a 3rd
and long, JoJo Vernaccini, who
was in perfect coverage, picked
off thepassand returned it to the
50 yard line.
LeRoy’s final possession of
the first half was highlighted by
a 39 yard scamper “up the gut”
by Luke Lathan. Carries of 7
yards by Jude Sherman and 2
more carries of 5 and4yards by
Lathan put the ball at the 1 yard
line where Jake Higgins scored
on the QB Keeper. Halftime

York was forced to punt on
their first possession of the sec-
ondhalf thanks toa14yard sack
by Cameron Riggi and a tackle
in thebackfieldbyCarsonCaton
andAvanteWalker.
LeRoy’s only score of the
second half came on the next
possession. After two plays
moved theball toYork’s27yard
line,LukeLathanburstoff tackle
and sprinteduntouched27yards
to stretch the score toLeRoy 34
–York 8.
LeRoy’sdefenseplayed spir-
ited football in the second half
holding York scoreless while
allowing only 13 yards on 5
possessions.
LukeLathanandAaricLuce
teamed up to lead LeRoy’s de-
fensewith5 tackles each. Aaric
Luce also added 3 sacks and a
fumble recovery. Joey Reschke
had 4 tackles, Carson Caton 3
tackles, Jack Egeling 3 tackles,
LeRoy JuniorKnights –LeRoy 34 –York 8
3 sacks and a fumble recovery.
