JamesDaniel Henry Sr.
LEROY– JamesDanielHenrySr.,87,ofLeRoy,passedawayTues-
day (May 26, 2015) at his home surroundedbyhis loving family.
Mr. Henry was born July 18, 1927 in LeRoy, the son of the late
George andAnnaLucille (Campbell)Henry.
A lifelong resident of LeRoy, James was amember of the First
Presbyterian Church of LeRoy and amember of the LeRoy High
Class of 1946. James left school at the end of his junior year to
join the U.S. Navy. After serving 10 months in the Philippines,
James returnedhome to earnhis diploma. He then attendedRIT and learned the oil burner
servicebusinesswhich servedhimwell duringhis 34 yearswith theTownsendOil Corporation
in LeRoy. He worked at a variety of LeRoy based companies inhis day, including Jell-O,

, Lapp Insulator, and theDerrickMonument Co. He retiredafter a6-year
stint withRay LeChaseConstructionof Rochester, NY.
Mr. Henry was a Village of LeRoy Fireman/Fire Police Officer during his 38 years with the
LeRoy FireDepartment. He served as the Financial Secretary for the Chemical Hose of LeRoy
during his 60+ years with the group. He was a socialmember of the LeRoy OatkaHose and
alsowasamemberof theLeRoyOatkaFish&GameClub,LeRoy Jaycees(Vice-President1963),
ChemicalHoseDrillTeam, and theLeRoyAmericanLegion for68years. Mr.Henry servedasa
LeRoyVillageTrustee from1969-70after being the top vote-getter in the local spring election.
He was also a Trustee and Vice-President for LeRoy’sMachpelahCemetery for 20+ years. He
took great pride and joy working for Camp Good Days and Special Times (Branchport, NY)
where he was a 10-year member of their wood working department creating wood-based
projects for children at the campwhowere afflictedwith cancer. Over the years he collected
tens of thousands of aluminumpull tabs so that the cashpayout for the collectedmetal could
be donated to local kidney dialysis centers.
Mr. Henrywas known for hiswarmand friendly demeanor, quickwit, desire tohelpothers,
fierce loyalty,andhisengaginghumbleness. Hewasanavidcoincollectorandfinewoodcrafter.
He so enjoyed constructing his custom-made Adirondack style chairs for family and friends.
He alsopossessedapenchant for local LeRoyhistory. He installedmany of the bricks nowon
displayat theLeRoyHistorical Society’s Jell-OBrickRoad. Hewas a letter-earningmember of
theundefeated1943LeRoyHighvarsity football team thatwaselected into the2012 inaugural
class of the LeRoyHighOatkaKnights SportsHall of Fame. Hewas afixture at LeRoy football
games, bothhome and away, for 70+ years. He was known as the official historian of LeRoy
High football due to his large LeRoy football catalog of retro stories, stats, and images that
chronicle the program from its inception in 1897 to the present. Mr. Henry alsomaintained
a similar status with the LeRoy High wrestling program as he regularly attended scholastic
dualmeets and tournaments for 40+ years, always equippedwithhis note padandpencil.
Mr. Henrywas predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Beatrice Coppini Henry, and a daughter,
AngelaMarie. Hewas a brother-in-law to the late Velma and JosephMerola, James andRuth
Coppini,AlbertCoppini,AngeloCoppini,OlimbiaandSamDiLiberto,CarmenandPatCoppini,
JosephCoppini, Louise andThomas Paladino, andRita Ianiro.
Survivors includefive children: James (Bonnie)Henryof LeRoy,George (Jennifer)Henryof
Essex Junction,Vermont,Edward(KarenBarrera)HenryofLeRoy,Gary(Sue)HenryofClarence
Center, andRebecca (Bill) Seeley of LeRoy. Three sisters: DorothyPapke (lateRay) of LeRoy,
Florence Glena (late Robert) of Henrietta, and Elizabeth Stewart
(late Thomas) of Canandaigua. Seven grandchildren: TarynHenry
of Batavia, Christie, Angela, Peter, and Nick Henry, all of Vermont,
and Jayce andDalton Seeley of LeRoy. One great grandchild: James
Henryof Batavia. Five sister-in-laws: Faye,Mary, Pearl, andBarbara
CoppiniofCaledonia,andLorraineCoppiniofBatavia. Threebrother-
in-laws: Peter andAnthonyCoppini, andFrank Ianiroof Caledonia.
