WELCOMEBACKTO
SCHOOL!
It was an amazingly smooth
opening for the 2016-17 school
year. Despite some construction
delays, buildings were clean,
shiny and ready for students
on September 6th. We were so
happy to see the smiles and en-
thusiasm as students entered the
schools. I have been fortunate
enough to get in all classrooms,
in both buildings, over the past
few days. It was great to hear
all the positive comments about
the changes. Students at the Jr./
Sr. High School were in awe of
thebeautiful new spaces that are
being prepared for them. One
student commented, “It’s just
like a college!” Students and
staffatWolcottStreetSchool love
the openness and space of their
newly designed classrooms. We
just need the finishing touches
tomake these spaces evenmore
impressive.
For the second year in a row,
it was a sultry start with tem-
peratures into the90’s.Everyone
worked together to keep as cool
aspossibleandenjoywhat should
be thefinal daysof summer.One
group that is really feeling the
heat is our wonderful Buildings
and Grounds crews, under the
directionofourDirectorofFacil-
ities,RogerCaldwell. Icannotsay
enough about this team. These
peoplehaveworked tirelessly all
summer, and even over this past
holiday weekend, to ready our
spaces for learning. They went
above andbeyond the call of duty
over and over again, making sure
classroomswerecleanandsafe for
our students.Kudos to theLeRoy
Building and Grounds team and
Mr. Caldwell!
There are always changes re-
quired from theNewYork State
Education Department and this
year is no exception. On July
1st of this year, NYSED enacted
some changes to Education Law
Sections2801-aand807 (Chapter
54 of the Laws of 2016), regard-
ing school preparedness in an
emergency.Thesechanges are to
be reflected in allDistrict Safety
Plans. I amhappy to say that our
District Plan already contained
most of the new requirements.
However, we have made some
minor updates. Toview theplan,
go to thedistrictwebsiteandclick
on the Le Roy CSD Safety Plan
link. If you have any questions,
please feel free to email them to
the address located on the page.
Also, there will be public com-
menton theplanat theSeptember
13thBoardofEducationmeeting.
It has been a terrific start! I

thegreat things that happeneach
