LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - DECEMBER 9, 2018 President Jim Ellison brought the meeting to order on a day that welcomed four wonderful LeRoy High School seniors as our guests. It is always amazing what these students are accomplishing in a day and what their future plans hold! Announcements were plentiful as LeRoy Rotarians continue to do wonderful things in our community and abroad. Christine Gephart announced that the Community Kitchen Thanksgiving Dinner was a huge success, 51 dinners were served. The next Community Kitchen dinner is December 11th. Mary Margaret Ripley took a few minutes to explain the weekly meeting sheet. Christine Gephart announced that Early Act will be working in conjunction with the LeRoy Police Department to “Stuff the Cruiser”! On December 16th they will be collecting food items at Tops to be distributed to families during the holiday season. David Grayson reminded Rotarians to donate to Every Rotarian Every Year. Andy Rich presented us with a wonderful off the cuff talk regarding his recent Rotary Friendship Exchange to Thailand! Andy traveled to this amazing country for 2 weeks, building life long friendships and cultivating a real respect and appreciation for the beautiful people and country of Thailand. The opportunities in Rotary for life long learning and engagement with others near and far is limitless! Rotarians are busy people and there were many who missed last weeks meeting. Jake Whiting had several misses but made up for them by bringing President Jim a gift from Germany. Phil Plossl, Scott McCumiskey, Marth Bailey, Bob Bennett, Christine Gephart, Samantha Vagg, Carol Wolfe, and Mike Tucci all had misses. Andy Rich had four missed meetings but had four makeups in Thailand! Fining at today’s meeting was lively as always. Jake Whiting was fined for missing the Appliance Raffle, a real Rotary faux pas! Andy Rich was fined for sitting on a wooden elephant in Thailand. His comment, “It was fair to all concerned that I wasn’t sitting on a live one”! Phil Plossl was fined $10.00 for a WXXI pen, Martha Bailey was fined for a new car, and Carol Wolfe was fined for providing the WXXI things for fining material. There was no speaker today as time was spent in committee meetings to plan for the coming year. Committees include: PR/ Communications, Fundraising, Grants, Membership, Service Projects/Outreach, Strategic Planning/Administration, and Social.
