Callboard

Page 2 www.tanys.org Callboard - Volume XIX • Issue 2 • Fall 2022 We have met the challenge of a bumpy road... Our TANYS adjudicators have been quite busy this past year, which indicates our theatrical seasons are returning with confidence. The road back to normalcy this year has had some bumps and detours in it for all of us, but we all seem to be progressing toward our desired destination! I know every theatre has had to deal with the challenge of “the show must go on, but will it?” Even I, who have been involved with seven productions on the college, community and professional levels this year, have had two of those productions dealt a “COVID-19 punch.” In both cases we found a way to deal with the challenge (one unfortunate cancellation, and one with actor/book in hand). But the art of theatre itself and our New York State (NYS) companies are resilient and have kept moving forward to bring entertaining and uplifting productions to our audiences. TANYS members and member companies should be proud of what they have accomplished over this past year. Be sure to give yourselves a large round of applause and a pat on the back for how we have come through and continue to recover from our overlong “intermission” in production! Confidence and patience have seen us through so far and will continue to do so as we raise the curtain into 2023! To that end, I am happy to announce that we will return to our traditional 3-day theatre Festival this year. Our 2020 virtual Festival and 2021 one-day Festival were unique and proved that you can't keep good theatre down, but returning to our “roots” will sure feel good! Face to face networking, more live performances, celebrating, partying and just the excitement of gathering together again will be the hallmark of our “Family Reunion '22.” So, mark your calendars for November 18, 19 & 20 in Rome, NY at the Rome Community Theater (RCT). I also want to express a huge thank you to RCT for hosting three festivals over this past four-year period. The supporters and volunteers of each of these Festivals are responsible for the great success of each one. In closing I want to mention that there are two at-large positions now open on the TANYS Board and one open position (as NY Representative) on the Eastern States Theatre Association (ESTA) Board. If you're interested in these positions or getting involved in another way, please contact me or Colleen Law-Tefft. We always welcome new faces with fresh ideas! Michael Krickmire TANYS President A Note from our TANYS President If you'll be attending Festival, please note the current Festival COVID-19 protocol. TANYS does not at this Festival require proof of vaccination. TANYS continues to follow the guidance of New York State to ensure the safety of all performers, technicians, front of the house workers, and audience members. We highly recommend that all Festival participants and audience members be vaccinated and wear masks while in the theatre. Should this protocol change we will announce it via email, on our website and over social media. As noted elsewhere in this newsletter: if you have any special dietary needs for food at this Festival, contact the Festival Registrar at registertanys@ gmail.com. RCT plans to provide a shuttle bus, at no extra cost to Festival attendees, from the Hampton Inn to the Banquet. If you choose to drive yourself, please drink responsibly. The first shuttle will leave the Hampton Inn at 5:45 PM so you can enjoy the pre-Banquet entertainment. It will make 2 additional runs to the Banquet before dinner starts. We hope you all come and enjoy the entertainment and social hour from 6-7. The banquet facility will kick us out at 10:45 PM. Presently masks are required to ride the shuttle. There will be a donation jar by the Membership table at RCT to help offset the cost of the shuttle. There will not be a shuttle bus to the Afterglow at DeSalvo’s on Friday. So if you plan to drink please call a cab, an Uber or Lyft, or have a designated driver. We want to see EVERYONE safe and sound at RCT on Saturday. There will be a phone number for the local taxi company in your Festival goody bag. You'll also have a map in your Festival goody bag to all of the activities. RCT is at 8911 Turin Rd, Rome. If you check in at the hotel before coming to RCT we hope to have maps or directions available there as well so you can find RCT. Or bring this Callboard. Also in your goody bag will be a Festival evaluation form. Please fill it out and drop it off at the registration desk before leaving for home. But if you forget or would prefer to fill it out at home, you can mail it back to TANYS or complete the online evaluation. We use your feedback to plan for future Festivals. We encourage everyone to stay through the end of Festival on Sunday. After Lunch, TANYS will briefly present “The State of TANYS” at the annual meeting. Following that meeting, the Festival adjudicators will present their Festival awards and other awards will be given by TANYS and the Festival committee. Immediately following the annual meeting will be a talk back session with the adjudicators. This is the time during Festival to ask any questions of them about your show or any other facet of adjudication. All in all, we hope you choose to join us in Rome for this Reunion. We would love to reunite with longtime TANYS members who have not been to Festival in a few years as well as thoe attending Festival for the first time. We can offer all attendees a lot of REALLY good theater, new friendships, and GREAT entertainment! IMPORTANT FESTIVAL CONSIDERATIONS
