LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - MAY 16, 2021 LeRotary Notes After many months of only virtual meetings, the Rotary Club of LeRoy met in person in the American Legion Pavilion. It was a very brisk day but Rotarians are a hardy bunch and we all were just grateful to see each other in person again. President Mary Margaret Ripley welcomed everyone. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Randy Vink and Bob Carlsen gave the prayer. We had one guest, our speaker Robbie Nichols. There were a few announcements. Jim Ellison reminded us of the Virtual Foundation Gala on May 1th. The REAL book give-a-way is set for June 26th at the Farmer’s Market. President-Elect Ben Deragon asked anyone who has a preference for a particular committee to please let him know soon. He is trying to get things ready for the next Rotary year. It looks like the Installation Dinner will be on June 30th. More information to follow. We all sang a rousing rendition of “Home on the Range” to honor our birthday celebrants. Phil Plossl, Jim Ellison, Ben Deragon and Mary Young are all one year older. It is said that the worse the song is sung, the better we like them. P r e s i d e n t AM a r y Margaret Ripley called out Jim Ellison, Jeff Halliday, Phil Plossl, Mary Young and Bob “Sully” Sullivan for missed meetings. Most had make-ups. Moving on, she fined Sully for his daughters post on social media about his grandsons. Eric Fix was fined for his son’s swimming awards. Bob Bennett called on the services of Past President Randy Vink. Bob noticed that President Mary Margaret Ripley doesn’t appear to understand over/ under on the Totem so she was fined accordingly. R o b b i e AN i c h o l s , the new owner of the Batavia Muckdogs was our speaker. 2021 will be the 82nd season of baseball in Batavia. This year they join the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. The 2021 season opens on June 4th and it promises to be a spectacular one. They plan on hosting many great promotions and many firework nights. Season tickets are available now. After a brief question and answer period, President Mary Margaret Ripley thanked everyone and adjourned the meeting.
