LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 10, 2021 Submitted by Ric Vangalio This week the undefeated Junior Knights (4-0) took on a tough and rugged Canisteo Junior Redskins (2-1) team. The Knights won the opening toss and chose to take the ball in hopes of putting some points on the board early. Last week RB Sammy Bogue took a handoff and scrambled for a TD on the 2nd play of the game. Even though it was the 3rd of October, it felt a lot like Ground Hog’s Day as RB Sammy Bogue again took a handoff and scrambled for a 70 TD on the 2nd play of the game. On the following play Carter McClurg took a handoff and ran it right up the belly of the beast for a hard earned extra point to give Le Roy an early 7-0 Lead. Canisteo’s offense took the field and it began to look like Le Roy’s defense was going to do it’s usual 3 and out. But the Canisteo RB changed direction on a 3rd and long and broke free for a 50 yard gain. Blake Fetzer refused to let Le Roy’s 13 Quarter scoreless streak come to an end. Fetzer channeled his inner D.K. Metcalf by turning on the jets and catching up to the RB, making the TD saving tackle at the 18 yard line of Le Roy. Le Roy’s defense then tightened up inside the Red Zone, as Cam Weber made a big play on 4th down to shut down the drive, and keep the scoreless streak alive. Le Roy’s offense got the ball back, and picked up right where it left on it’s first drive as Mason Doran took a handoff and raced around the left end. After breaking free from the line Doran zigged and zagged his way down the field for an 85 yard TD run. The following extra point was unsuccessful, which put the score at Le Roy 13 - Canisteo 0. C a n i s t e o ’ s A s e c o n d chance on offense was not as successful as their first as Le Roy’s defense started settling in. With some big plays early by Andy Murphy, Dylan Loftus and Brianna “Stitch” Porcelli, the Redskins were faced with a 3rd and long. It was then that pressure from Carter McClurg and Ryker Vangalio forced a fumble, which Ryan Chrissy jumped on to give the ball right back to the Knights deep in Canisteo’s territory. When going down the list of offensive geniuses in the history of youth football, it doesn't take long to get to the name of one Joseph Bogue. Bogue dialed up a half-back option on 3rd down that saw Sammy Bogue take a pitch in the backfield, run right, before throwing back to a streaking Ryker Vangalio, who hauled it in at the 15 yard line and ran it in for another Knights TD. An unsuccessful extra point made the score Le Roy 19 - Canisteo 0. Canisteo’s next possession was a quick one with some great plays on defense by Ben Biracree and Jayden Biletskiy, forcing a 3 and out. Le Roy once again had the ball, but despite some good runs by Cole Cray and Cam Montesano they were unable to capitalize on good field position. Again, the Knights defense took the field and with some great tackles by Stone Husted, Connar Hanley and Blake Biracree the Redskins turned the ball over on downs again. The Knights, hoping to take advantage of great field position once again turned to a talented backfield of Thomas Englerth and Cam Weber for some hard earned yards on Le Roy Junior Knights Football Continued on pg 8 We ask you to support our continued work for you and your families.
