LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - APRIL 25, 2021 LeRotary Notes The Rotary Club of LeRoy gathered virtually on April 14, 2021, with 21 members present and one guest, Henry Moore, Executive Director of the Hope Center of LeRoy. President Mary Margaret welcomed everyone. Bob Bennet led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a prayer by Bob Carlsen. President Mary Margaret shared announcements. President Mary Margaret announced that beginning the first Wednesday in May, the meetings will move to outdoors at the American Legion Pavilion. There will be a boxed lunch option and more information will come. Mary Young is collecting books for the upcoming R.E.A.L. at the LeRoy Farmers Market. Please get in touch with Mary if you have books to donate. R.E.A.L. will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the Farmer’s Market in Trigon Park. President Mary Margaret reminded the club of the guided hike at the Genesee County Park on April 25th. The group will meet at 8:30 am. The hike will be about 1.5 to 2 miles with little challenge other than mud. Shannon Karcher reminded the club of the upcoming Shred-it event on May 8, 2021, in the parking lot of OrCon. The event will be from 8:00-Noon. It will be a drive-thru event where people will be able to have their documents safely shredded. People will be able to pay $10.00 per banker-sized box or medium kitchen bag. The event is secure and all documents will be shredding onsite by Shred- it. Ben Daragan shared about the upcoming club assembly on May 15th. President Mary Margaret moved on to missed meetings. Missed meetings were sanctioned to Bob Bennett (1), Jim Bonacquisti (2), Tracy Ford (1), Mary Young (1), and Tom McGinnis (20)! Bob and Jim both had make-ups. Bob and Jim have been helping deliver Meals on Wheels for members of the community on Mondays. Tracy and Mary did not have any make-ups and Tom was excited he figured out how to join via Zoom! Tom will be fined accordingly. President Mary Margaret moved on to the fining session. Tracy Ford was fined for a very old picture of a lighted walk she did within the community with other Rotarians. She said it was a great night but remembers some injuries along the way. Ben Daragan was fined for an old picture of him, his wife, and his parents on a cruise. Tom McGinnis was fined for having a helping hand to have his friend, Santa Claus be at Save A Lot last December. Tom shared it was the only time he was able to see his friend during the holiday season and hopes to see him more often next year. Tom also mentioned he was not able to see his friend the Easter Bunny at all either. Tom is hopeful for the times ahead. The final fine for the day was to Carol Wolfe. She was fined for her lunch trip to Cartwright’s Maple Tree Inn a few weeks back. The program was presented by Rev. Henry Moore. Rev. Moore shared the various programs they have at the Hope Center. These include Fresh Start Literacy, Memory and Friends, and Joy Fellowship. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Memory and Friends has been on hold. They are hoping to begin again in June. This program is respite care to help caregivers of someone with early to mid- stage memory impairment and needs a break or time away. Rev. Moore also shared how the literacy program has been able to work closely with the school to provide literacy tutoring to students. They have also begun to do math tutoring and would like to see the program grow. The Hope Center is interested in working along with other community members to increase programming for all members of the LeRoy community. President Mary Margaret thanked Henry for presenting and adjourned at 12:51 pm. Playing hockey was not a guarantee this year and even once the green light was given there were many obstacles to navigate...but the Batavia Midget Ramparts 18u team came together and skated away with the title in the Empire Amateur Hockey Association. The team, pictured, was led by LeRoyan Coach Erik Triftshauser and is made up of players ages 15-18 from the surrounding area including LeRoy!
