President Mary Margaret Ripley brought the meeting to order and the pledge by Erik Fix and the prayer offered by Martha Bailey. President Mary Margaret asked for announcements. Shannon Karcher and Scott McCumiskey have scheduled a guided hike onApril 25th at 8:30 am at the Genesee County Park. Rotarian Scott will lead the hike. President Mary Margaret gave a brief update about the board meeting which was held prior to the weekly meeting. President Mary Margaret moved onto missed meetings. Missed meetings were observed by David Grayson (2) with no make-ups. The fining session began with President Mary Margaret sharing an older picture of Bruce Baker, Tracy Ford, and Carol Wolfe from an Eastern Cities dinner years ago. Many didn’t recognize Carol because of her hair color was very dark. Carol shared that once her hair went enough gray it allowed her to color it blonde! David Grayson was also fined for a picture from 2011 when they helped to host a group for Rotary Group Study Exchange. The group had come from Brazil. Today’s presentation was by Lynne Belluscio. Lynne provided a virtual tour of the Jell-O Gallery. Lynne shared how they began doing virtual tours due to COVID-19 and maintaining safety for her emp l oy e e s . ÅTh eÅg a l l e r y opened in 1997 and by 2000 had expanded the days and hours. Lynne shared how the gallery came about and has developed over the years. More information can be located at https://www.jellogallery.org/. The virtual tours provide a positive learning opportunity for others and help maintain the presence of the gallery. They have been able to provide these tours to public schools and colleges and universities. (It should be noted that many museums are struggling financially during COVID-19 and rely on the support of patrons.) Many Rotarians had not been to the museum or haven’t in many years and are looking forward to touring in- person in the future. Jell-O began with only four flavors; orange, lemon, strawberry, and raspberry. Lime was added in 1930. Lynne also shared a wall of trivia. One fun fact is that Dr. Adrian Upton had tested wiggly Jell-O with an EEG machine and noted it had the same brain waves identical to adult males and females. In 1993, with the help of technicians at St. Jerome hospital in Batavia, NY they recreated this test using an EEG machine and had the same results. This is good information to tuck in your mind for your next trivia night! President Mary Margaret thanked all present and then adjourned at 12:47.
