We welcomed back Rene Vanderhoof who was our Rotary Youth Exchange student from Holland more years ago than we can count. Rene’s friend Isabela Cobelens visited with him. We also welcomed Jessica Held, Tim McArdle, LHS Principal, and Alex Grankov, an exchange student from Denmark. Upcoming events include, LeRoy Rotary Community Kitchen: 10/22, Game Night: 10/25, Picnic Table Rehab: TBD Oct. Announcements: Scott McCumiskey promised a rousing Appliance Raffle on Oct 13th. This is our major fund raiser for the year which allows us to reinvest thousands of dollars into our community. President Mary congratulated Jess Strollo and Tom Feeley for completing their first night serving and cleaning up at the Le Roy Rotary Community Kitchen – they contributed to a new record for quick cleanup as we were done and gone by 6:45 pm! Why don’t you think about volunteering with us? Jason Karcher spoke about completing the second part of Rotary Leadership Institute. It’s a great way to learn about Rotary and leadership skills at one time! President Mary presented a check to Jessica Held to fund the Empowered Arrow program for one student from Le Roy. Empowered Arrow is just one of the many fine nonprofit programs in Le Roy which we support. Ben Deragon, Tracy Ford, Jim Ellison, Tim Moag, Bob Sullivan, Martha Bailey, Mike Tucci, Sami Vagg, Jake Whiting and Lynne Belluscio were all called upon for missed meetings. None of them won the prize for the best “I was otherwise occupied” excuse. Multiple Rotarians had the opportunity to “pay their dues ahead” AKA were fined by President Mary. Jeff Halladay talked about sharing fandom of the Bills with his son who has his own Bills uniform. Tracy Ford was recognized as a past Assistant Governor. Jim Ellison fanned away the “smoke and mirrors” from Bob Bennett at the Rotary picnic and paid accordingly. Martha Bailey was recognized for gathering coats and other clothing for the needy. Marcia McKenzie showed off her talents at the painting class and landscaping at the Greens. The program today was an update on our Youth Services presented by Sami Vagg. Our Interact Program is open to all students in grades 7-12. Our students are planning on continuing and growing our “Hometown Heroes Project” from last year. They will also complete a program called the “Butterfly Effect” where participants are given a set amount of funds to invest in a project of their choosing which will grow beyond the original cost and be given back to the community. Our goal is to educate our students and communities about other cultures and to teach them the value of giving back! You can learn more about this and other projects on our Facebook page: LeRoy Jr./Sr. High Rotary Interact. Remember to “like” Rotary on Facebook: “Rotary Club of LeRoy”, Or visit leroyrotary. org.
