Maybe folks will not be raking leaves with these high winds the area is experiencing. President Jim opened the meeting followed by the Pledge ofAllegiance, and the 4-way test recited by all. The only guest for this day was our speaker Elijah Kruger. There were several announcements and dates for Rotarians to remember. Rotarians and Interactors will be staking Christmas trees on the creek bank on November 18th. Friday, November 30 is Breakfast with Bob at 7:00 am at The Greens, also the Rotary Christmas party is that evening at the Gugino’s. The Rotary Leadership Institute is being held on Saturday, Dec l and Rotarians do not forget the Cookie Auction to be held at Rotary lunch on Wednesday, Dec. 12, with proceeds to benefit the Le Roy Rotary Community Kitchen. Upcoming service opportunities include the Community Kitchen Dinners scheduled for Nov. 14 and 28 as well as the Salvation Army Bell Ringing to be scheduled in December. Bruce Baker and Ben Deragon missed a meeting due to working and paid up. Merritt Holly, Jason Karcher, Sami Vagg, Mary Young and Tim Moag also missed a meeting but made up by working at the Appliance Raffle. President Jim has lots of pictures of Rotarians attending social events and other interesting occasions which help members “move up the totem pole”. If not a picture, he has a trivia quiz question. Some would rather just pay a fine, but others enjoy learning about how Rotary is eradicating polio from the face of the earth! The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. November is Rotary Foundation month. Rotarians are encouraged to participate in the “Every Rotarian Every Year” program by donating to the Annual Fund or to Polio Plus. It can save a life. A child can be protected from polio with as little as 60 cents. Our partners make your donation go even further. For every $1 Rotary commits to polio eradication, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $2. You can register and donate online or give your donation to David Grayson. Avery informative program for the day was presented by Elijah Kruger an Environmental Educator working out of the Humphrey Nature Center at Letchworth State Park. Letchworth State Park is known as the the “Grand Canyon of the East” and is a 17 mile stretch of park land along the Genesee River. Elijah develops programs thru the Center for the public. He holds special events as well, like the “First Day Hike” on January 1st. Inside the Center is an exhibit that highlights the Genesee River as well other areas of the Park. There are education programs for school children as well as home-schooled children. The Monarch Butterfly garden is a poplar area. The Center tracks the Monarchs after they leave the area, and some have been found as far away as Mexico. The Ski & Snowshoe Season will be starting soon at the Park. In 2017, the Park won the USA Today Reader’s Choice Award for Best State Park ForMore about Rotary, visit leroyrotary.org and remember to “like” them on Facebook: “Rotary Club of LeRoy”. 1 Church St., LeRoy, NY 14482 585.768.2201 www.lpgraphics.net
