LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - NOVEMBER 18, 2018 by Stephen Barbeau Supervisor, Town of LeRoy (585) 768-6190 ext. 231 The Town Board adopted its 2019 budget last week. High- lights include: 1. The tax rate lowered slight- ly to .89 per thousand- Sev- enth straight year with no tax rate increase 2. A contract with National Grid to replace our current fluorescent lighting with ener- gy saving LED lighting at the town hall and highway dept. 3. A contract with three+one to assist us with liquidity and treasury analysis in finding more profitable short-term cash investments (interest revenue) 4. Wages and benefits for our new union contract and our nonunion employees 5. A plan to replace some out- dated highway equipment 6. Repairs to Bunnell Park in- frastructure 7. Removal of former subsi- dy to LeRoy Ambulance Ser- vice- My December column will be devoted to ambulance update Directly related to future budgets will be Genesee Coun- ty’s decision on whether (how) to continue sharing sales tax revenue with towns/villages. Last month, I wrote about the challenges/mandates NYS is placing on the County regarding Raise theAge and a new jail, and a proposal the County articulat- ed on how to meet these chal- lenges. Subsequent to that, we learned (at the October Genesee Association of Municipalities- GAM- meeting) the County will now be imposing a new (differ- ent) “revenue sharing” program. I have met with our board and a number of other town super- visors to discuss this. This new “program” has us concerned. At the time of this article’s publi- cation, we will have just (a few days ago) presented GAM with a set of alternative proposals on how to share sales tax revenue that we hope the County will consider. As sales tax revenue is the major source of revenue (even beyond the level of prop- erty taxes collected) for our an- nual budget (and a substantial portion for the village as well), the decision the County makes on this will have a large impact on our future (after 2019) bud- get decision-making. I will keep you informed. Thank you, see youAround Town, and have a Blessed Thanksgiving. New Homes • Additions • Garages • Pole Barns CUSTOM CARPENTRY LLC.
