LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - SEPTEMBER 23, 2018 LeRoy Senior Knights 42, Geneseo Blue Devils 6 Submitted by: Kevin Robertson After beating Bath 24-6 and York 28-12 in their first two games, LeRoy played host to 1-1 Geneseo on a sun scorched day at Hartwood Park. Geneseo would jump out to a quick 6-0 lead on their opening possession on a 68 yard run. LeRoy would stop the PAT attempt. Geneseo 6, LeRoy 0. The Senior Knights would answer quickly. Jude Sherman returned the ensuing kick off to the 50 yard line. Jake Higgins would get the drive started as he scampered off the right side for 10 yards. Set up with 1st and 10 at the Geneseo 40 yard line, Jude Sherman broke away for a 40 yard touchdown run to tie the score at 6 a piece. Jake Higgins would convert the PAT off the Knights’ right side giving LeRoy the lead 8-6. Following the kick off, Geneseo would take over on their own 35 yard line. Geneseo would be forced to punt after a 3 and out that included tackles for a loss by Zander Staba and Jake Higgins. LeRoy would take over possession on Geneseo’s 39 yard line. Consecutive runs of 10 yards by Adam Woodworth and Jake Higgins set up 1st and 10 from Geneseo’s 19 yard line. Jude Sherman, once again, would break free off the right side behind Peter Clark for a 19 yard TD run. The Knights would tack on 2 more points when AdamWoodworth walked untouched into the end zone for the two point try. LeRoy 16, Geneseo 6. Following the kick-off, Geneseo would take over on their own 46 yard line. After an incomplete pass to start the drive, Aaric Luce would come up with a big tackle in the backfield for a 10 yard loss followed by DJ O’Geen and Dawson Wojtaszcyk teaming up for the tackle on 3rd down. Jude Sherman would return the Blue Devils’ punt 30 yards to set up LeRoy with 1st and 10 on Geneseo’s 30 yard line. Behind the lead blocks of Sherman, Woodworth and Grady Gilligan, Jake Higgins would take the first play 30 yards for the score. LeRoy 22, Geneseo 6. Following Noah Kazanowski’s kick off, Geneseo took over possession at the 40 yard line. The Blue Devils proceeded to gain 9 yards on 1st down on a nifty throw and catch after the Geneseo QB scrambled to avoid the would be rushers. A holding penalty on the next play would back Geneseo up. An incomplete pass followed by a tackle for a loss by Woodworth, stalled the drive. The first quarter would end with LeRoy up 22-6. Geneseowould punt it away on 4th down to start the second quarter and LeRoy would take over at their own 26 yard line. Two carries by Elmore and one by Reschke would set up 4th down & 4 from the 33 yard line. Behind superior blocking by his offensive line, Connor Elmore broke free for 44 yards setting up 1st and 10 at the Geneseo 23 yard line. After runs by Noah Kaczanowski, Joey Reschke and Connor Elmore, Kazanowski would punch it from 8 yards to make it 28-6 LeRoy, with 4:36 left in the half. The half would end LeRoy 28, Geneseo 6. After both teams turned it over on downs to start the second half, LeRoy would take over at the Geneseo 40 yard line. Jack Egeling would start the drive with a run off the right side for 4 yards. Once again, Connor Elmore found himself in the open field, this time for 36 yards and the touchdown. After spending much of the day paving the way for his running back teammates, Jayce Panepento would rumble in for the PAT to make the score 36-6 with 1:54 left in the 3rd quarter. The final scoring of the day came from Noah Kazanowski. LeRoy would take possession at the Geneseo 25 and after runs of 1 yard by Dawson Wojtaszcyk and Cole Tonzi; Kaczanwoski would break free for his second touchdown of the day on a 23 yard run making the final score, LeRoy 42, Geneseo 6. Leading the Knights on Offense was Connor Elmore who had 6 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown. Jude Sherman rushed for 59 yards on 2 carries, both touchdowns. Jake Higgins carried the ball 3 times for 50 yards, a score and a PAT. Noah Kaczanowski added 45 yards on 6 carries and 2 TD’s. Adam Woodworth chipped in 10 yards and a PAT. Joey Reschke gained 6 yards on 3 carries. Dawson Wojtaszcyk and Cole Tonzi each ran the ball one time a piece, as did Jack Egeling. Jayce Panepento added a successful point after attempt for 2 points. Leading the Senior Knights on defense was Jude Sherman with 6.5 tackles followed by Aaric Luce with 4.5. Adam Woodworth, Jack Egeling and Dawson Wojtaszcyk each had 3 tackles. Holden Sullivan and Zander Staba recorded 2 tackles a piece. Cameron Riggi had 1.5 tackles. Peter Clark, Brayden Chase, Jake Higgins, DJ O’Geen, Cole Tonzi, Jayce Panepento, Wyatt Draper, Cam Wilson, Tavis Landen, Joe Reschke, Grady Gilligan and Noah Kaczanowski each contributed with a tackle. 3-0 LeRoy plays at Avon next week.
