Announcements were made about the upcoming Rotary Thirsty Thursday bike ride and drinks being organized by Mary Young. Jake Whiting gave an update on the scheduled Habitat for Humanity build in two weeks. On Thursday August 16th, the District team will meet with Rotarians to work on strategic planning. District Conference will be held on October 20th at Niagara on the Lake. Bob Bennett informed the club that tickets are being printed for the 30th Annual Rotary Appliance Raffle scheduled for October 28th. We had several birthdays to celebrate. As Rotarians get older, the Rotary Pot gets bigger! We really outdid themselves with an amazing version of “Home on the Range” to celebrate the birthdays. Several members were fined, had excuses or makeups for missed meetings. Chris Biviano, Ben Deragon, Samantha Vagg, Tammy Arneth, Bob Bennett and Tracy Ford all had makeups. Lynn Belluscio, Tom Feely and Jake Whiting had to reach into their pockets and pay a fine for missed meetings. Two new members were inducted, Tom Feeley and Betsy Halverson, and received their first fine for their name tags. The fun continued with the fining session which is a great way to get to know your fellow Rotarians! Martha Bailey was fined for a picture of her 1st place trivia team. Lynne Belluscio was fined for a well written article that included the making of Coffee Jell-O shots. Bob Bennett was fined for being on the 1st place golf team, at which point Martha had to explain what first place means. Chris Biviano had to pay up for being a judge for battle of the bands at the Eagle. President Jim had a difficult time finding fining material for Ben Deragon, so he charged Ben for a Rotary bumper sticker. Tracy Ford attended her first Red Sox game and was fined, which excited the Yankee fans in the group. Scott McCumiskey was fined for a “mysterious” onion smell in a cooler, which turned into quite the discussion. President Jim was given a hefty fine after being harassed by several Rotarians. The last fine went to Mary Margaret Ripley for passing on the birthday announcing responsibility to new Rotarian Crystal Ellingham. The fining session was filled with great laughs! Our presentation todaywas given by Tammy Arneth, from the office of Development at Genesee Community College. Tammy gave an update on the need for funding to support students at GCC. She was excited to share the launch of Scholarships in Action to help bring in more funding for students at GCC. Tammy was able to give clarification on the Excelsior Scholarship. Tammy would like the students of GCC and potential students to know that her office is available to assist students looking for funding to help achieve their goal of graduating from GCC. Please visit Genesee Community College’s website for more information on upcoming events to support their goal. Have you considered becoming part of an organization which is wiping polio off the earth, funding over $35,000.00 in scholarships for local graduates, feeding people in the Community Kitchen twice each month, and saving the lives of babies in Uganda? Please help make our community a better place to live. Remember to like us on Facebook at “Rotary Club of LeRoy”. Consider purchasing a ticket for the 30th Annual Rotary Appliance Raffle from any Rotarian and help us continue to do great things! New Homes • Additions • Garages • Pole Barns CUSTOM CARPENTRY LLC.
