LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - MARCH 11, 2018 SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ADVERTISERS! They help sponsor the local news section of the Le Roy Pennysaver. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Machpelah Cemetery Annual Plot Owners' Meeting at Oatka Hose Co. 11 North Avenue 10:00 am Saturday, March 31, 2018 LeRoy Youth Wrestling The LeRoy Youth Wres- tling Team sent 7 wrestlers to the Western NY Regional Qual- ifiers this past Sunday. The top 4 in each weight class earn an automatic bid the NYWAY State Championship at the SERC Center at The State Col- lege at Brockport. The West- ern Region is a large area that runs clockwise from Batavia, to Kendall, to the east side of Auburn, to Canisteo back to the epicenter of LeRoy. The place winners can lay claim that they are the best wrestler at their age and weight in the entire Section 5 western region. The young LeRoy club represented themselves well, qualifying 4 wrestlers to com- pete for an elite New York State Championship. Dawson Wojtaszczyk, wrestling in Division 5- 60lbs, is fast and slick. In his open- ing match speed was a factor. Camden Aruck (Webster Youth) had no answers for Dawson’s speedy attacks. Dawson Wojo wins via 3rd period pin and picks up his 100th win of his ca- reer in the process. In his 2nd match he faced a a familiar opponent in rugged Bobby Pullen (Celtic). Pul- len knew what was coming but didn’t know how to stop it. Again, speed was a factor. Dawson Wojo’s angles, level changes and explosiveness were the difference in a 3rd period pin for victory 101. Dawson should be a top 4 seed and is aiming to blow the roof off the SERC Center on Saturday. Colin Greene Wrestling in Division 4-55lbs received a bye in round one In round 2 Greene faced Aydaen Windnagle (Batavia “Little Devils”) who defeat- ed Greene earlier this season. Greene, since that loss, has be- come stronger and dominant and it showed in a 9-0 major decision. In the finals, Greene bat- tled Connor McCaffery (Can- isteo) who has muscles on top of his muscles. Greene and Mc- Caffery wrestled a fast paced scramble fest that was so en- tertaining they should retire the Wrestling matt and send it to Stillwater, Oklahoma at The Wrestling Hall of Fame. Mc- Caffery’s strength was the factor in a 7-4 victory. Colin Greene takes 2nd and will be a factor in the brackets this Saturday. If a Greene verses Muscleman Mc- Caffery happens again this Sat- urday, buckle up, strap in and get your oxygen mask ready. Carson “Nutter” Stiles Wrestling in Division 2-50lbs had to go 4 days without any OREO’s to prepare for regionals. In his first bout he faced 97 match winner Xavier Raycroft (Canisteo). Stiles was not about to be victim 98 and he shoved Raycroft off “Nutter Island” and out of bounds to secure a 4-3 thrilling victory. In bout 2, Stiles faced State ranked Bryce Monahan (Ruthless Aggression). Mona- han has already invaded “Nutter Island” earlier this season but Stiles felt he had the stopper, the recipe for victory this time out. That recipe was to avoid Monahan’s nasty chin whip. Monahan went right to it after he sprawled out of Stiles’ shot. Chin Whip City, Stiles here is your wrestlebacks, Monahan wins! In bout 3, Wrestling back, Nutter was angry and his neck was sore. He faced Seamus Flynn (Gorilla Grapplers) and the coconuts flew early with a blast double and a cross face cradle that makes noses crooked and plastic surgeons in business. Stiles wins via pin :21 seconds. In bout 4, for 3rd place Stiles wins via Disqualification. His opponent was unknowingly in the wrong division. The of- ficial ruling from NYWAY will dictate seeding for both grap- plers this Saturday. Sammy Bogue Wrestling in Division 1-46lbs has plenty of courage for a 5 year old. Bogue got beat up, twisted and crunched twice. That’s the bad part, but he still qualified for the State Tournament because he had the nerves to attend and he trusted his Coach. Sammy Bogue, welcome to the NY- WAY States at the SERC and let’s see a Cinderella ending. David Wojtaszczyk and Ryder Stiles wrestled in Divi- sion 4-60lbs. This talent laden bracket was the most loaded field in the tourney. The Divi- sion was so stacked the top 6 earn a trip to the States. David Wojo just missed qualifiers los- ing in the blood round to a state ranked opponent. Joey Stephany Wrestling in Division 8-85lbs had the worst draw of the tournament. Stephany faced Casper Stewart (Batavia “Little Devils”) and fought hard against the ultra talented Stewart. Stephany has faced The Who’s who in section V & VI all year and didn’t flinch once. Wrestling starts at 9AM Saturday at the SERC Center. “Embrace the grind”. March Came in like a Lion The Nursery classes at Love Bugs Preschool have been learning about how the weather changes with the seasons, especially during the month of March. They are looking out their “weather window” everyday to see if it’s a lion day or a lamb day. So far they’ve seen lots of lion days but are hoping for lamb days soon. Pictured here are some “lions” in the morning Nursery class.
