LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 22, 2017 LeRoy Junior Knights – LeRoy 22 – York 6 The Junior Knights hosted York for game seven of the 2017 season. York came to Hartwood Park with a 6-0 record. LeRoy Junior Knights were 5-1. The Junior Knights knew it would be a battle, with the winner one step closer to playing in the championship on October 29th. York would win the toss and they chose to defer un- til the second half. LeRoy’s of- fense would start with the ball. The Knights started moving down the field and picked up a first down. On second down Le- Roy would fumble the ball and York recovered. York started with the ball at their own 40 yard line. On first down, York would go to the air only to have an incomplete pass. On second down Con- nor Elmore would make a great open field tackle. Grady Gilli- gan would get in the backfield on third down giving York a 5 yard loss. York went for it on fourth down and Conner “CC” Corcimiglia would pancake the running back to give LeRoy their second possession of the game. Noah Kaczanowski and Connor Elmore both had some nice runs on first and sec- ond down, but on third down LeRoy fumbled the ball and York recovered. York would start at their own 25 yard line. York would be called on an off- side penalty digging them deep- er into their own territory. On second down, Brady McClurg, Jaxon Burnside, and Dawson “Wojo” Wojtaszczyk would gang tackle York’s back for a 3 yard loss. Avante Walker would make a shoelace tackle, and leave York with fourth and long. York was forced to punt. On LeRoy’s next pos- session, they made their way down to York’s 20 yard line only to turn the ball over once again. On first down York would be met by Drake Schwab and Gilligan in the backfield for a 5 yard loss. With two more unsuccessful plays, York was forced to punt again. As the Junior Knights looked to punch it in the end zone on the next series, they were plagued with another fum- ble and their fourth turnover of the half. York would try to cap- italize on the Knight’s fumble and started gaining momentum. It was quickly shut down though with monster tackles by Cole Tonzi, Colin Greene, Avante Walker, Brandon Shirley, Cam Riggi, and Jaxon Burnside. LeRoy’s offense start- ed their next possession at their own 40 yard line. Kaczanowski and Elmore would march the team down to the 5 yard line un- til time ran out in the first half. LeRoy 0-York-0 LeRoy’s first posses- sion to start the 3rd quarter would result in the first points of the game. Kaczanowski and Elmore shared runs all the way down to the 1 yard line. Cole Tonzi would follow CC up the middle to put the first points on the board. Elmore would get in for the PAT giving LeRoy an 8-0 lead. After crushing tackles by CC Corcimiglia, Tonzi, and Isaac Stella, York was faced with fourth down. York thought they would get aggressive and go for it on fourth down. They would try to pass down field, but Kaczanowski would jump up for the interception and give the Junior Knights the ball back. After an unsuccessful series the Knights were forced to punt giv- ing York the ball at their own 29 yard line. York would answer back and sprint in for a 71 yard TD. PAT attempt was no good giving LeRoy the edge 8-6. LeRoy wasn’t done though and on the next series Kaczanows- ki would hit the sideline, and sprint his way into the end zone. PAT was no good. LeRoy 14 -York 6. York couldn’t get any- thing going on offense again, and on second down Joey Re- schke would recover a York fumble. LeRoy made quick work of the turnover and once again Kaczanowski would scamper into the end zone to seal the victory for LeRoy. Fi- nal score LeRoy22-York 6 Cole Tonzi led the de- fense with 6 tackles. Cam Rig- gi with 5 tackles. Grady Gilli- gan registered 5 tackles and a sack. Conner Corcimiglia also had 4 tackles. Connor Elmore, Avante Walker, and Dawson “Wojo” Wojtaszczyk each had 3 tackles. Jacob Bowman, Jaxon Burnside, Joey Reschke, Drake Schwab and Noah Kaczanowski (1 INT) each had 2 tackles. Car- son Caton, Donovan Gaillard, Colin Greene, Brady McClurg, Brandon Shirley and Isaac Stel- la each with one. Offensively, Connor Elmore carried the ball 24 times for 147 yards and a PAT. Noah Kaczanowski with 14 carries for 104 yards and 2 TD’s, Cole Tonzi ran the ball 2 times with a TD. Joey Reschke also carried the ball twice. LeRoy plays host to Warsaw this Sunday, October 22nd at 12:00 at Hartwood Park.
