Notes

Nov. 30, 2005 - Another day that we are glad we are here and doing all we can. Christmas is coming!!

President Tim Spezzano called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Bob Boyce followed by a prayer by "Seely" Seely Pratt. Guests today were Stephanie Graham from the Le Roy Karate Center, Joanne Graham and April Schwenebraten, Stephanieís students. Also Don Meyer of the Batavia Rotary, Jane Monaghan from the Perry Club and Don Cooney - LeRoy Rotary President, '67-'68. Visiting Le Roy High seniors were Stefan Skillman, Sue Skillman and Christine Barringer.

There were several announcements: Tom McGinnis reminded us of the Le Roy Winterfest this weekend. Le Royís own Santa Claus will be at the Oatka Furnishings store on Saturday from 1- 4 p.m. Santa has been meeting Le Roy children for over 50 years and he would love to see you and the kids again. The Le Roy Boosters Club is taking orders for delicious pies to be distributed by 12/17, call Jim DeLooze for details. MJ Brooke reminded the members that the "Good Knight" CDs are still available for Christmas gifts. There are songs on this CD even we, Rotary members, would recognize.

There were at least seven members absent from Rotary last week. All had creditable excuses, mostly attributed to Thanksgiving with family obligations. To keep in the spirit of the times President Tim only fined them a few green cards (explained as dollar bills). Thatís strange, because thatís the usual retribution. Oh well, maybe heíll have more "spirit" for Christmas.

The fining session included a group of five or six members. There were trips to Philly - family, to Albany - a grandchild, one to NY City to see Sweet Charity on Broadway. There was one event where grandparents names, to be used forever, were chosen. Then there were those who went hunting, successfully, if you are not of the "dear" family. The Bennett party reduced the deer-car accident potential by five. It was reported that Mr. Boyce, of Tompkins Insurance, took it upon himself to reduce that same accident potential by two-and-half. However, there have been some almost-sightings and of course the near-misses. This suggests that, on the whole, be careful while driving for another year.

Dr. Bruce Baker introduced our guest and program this week, Stephanie Graham. Stephanie is certified in Pilates. She has two years experience and has been teaching for one year at the Le Roy Village Fitness and Karate facility on Main Street. To paraphrase from some of Stephanieís literature; Pilates is a total body conditioning exercise method combining flexibility and strength (with little to no joint impact). It is physical training based on a natural body state - motion. It is an art form similar to martial arts or dance - the results remain forever. Some of the benefits of Pilates are strengthen core muscles, develop mental focus, relieve stress and tension, boost the immune system, improve posture and helps prevent bone deterioration. Stephanie reports that Pilates is for everyone. With regular practice your body will begin to change from the inside out. A good program, a good demonstration, thanks Stephanie, Joanne and April. For more information, class times and fees call Stephanie, 768 6213.
