Track & Field State Qualifier Meet

On Saturday, six athletes from the Le Roy Winter Track and Field team competed at the State Qualifier Meet at Hobart and William Smith College. Competing against athletes from all classes, Le Roy had two school records broken and several excellent performances.

Dave Dreyer was the highlight of the day for the Knights as he finished 2nd overall in pole vault with a clearing height of 13' 6". Dave became the first Le Roy athlete to qualify for the state championships in the schools short three year history in the league. Coach Jay Laitenberger said "Dave was in total control the whole meet, you could just see it in his eyes - the way he attacked each vault with determination."

Also competing were Freshman Matt VanBuskirk who finished 19th with a new personal record in the 300 and was the fastest freshman in that event. Freshman Tyler Murray ended the day with an 8th place medal, despite a controversial race in the 1000 meter. Tyler's time broke his own school record as he ran almost the perfect race.

The boys 4 x 800 relay team lowered their school record by almost 6 seconds as the team chased down an 8th place medal but came up a couple seconds shy of it. The team consisted of Sophomores Jake Sullivan and Pat O'Halloran, Junior Jim Schwab and Freshman Tyler Murray and was by far the youngest relay team at the meet.

Dave Dreyer competes in the State Championships on Sunday at the Syracuse University Carrier Dome.
