Cross Country Teams
Best Finish Ever At McQuaid
At Saturday's McQuaid Invitational at Genesee Valley Park, both the Boys' and Girls' Cross Country teams had their best finishes ever. Prior to this season, the best finish for a Le Roy boy had been 68th place and for a girl was 35th place. While competing in the largest high school cross country race in the nation, Le Roy runners finished in the front of the pack in both boys and girls' races.
Tyler Murray led the Varsity "A" team with his 21st place finish and running 45 seconds faster than any previous Le Roy boy. Immediately behind Tyler was Jake Sullivan finishing 24th and running 1:18 better than at the same race last year. Also scoring for Le Roy were Jim Schwab, Brandon Weig and Pat O'Halloran. The boys team finished 8th overall out of more than 30 teams from all over the northeast. The 8th place finish was the teams best overall finish at McQuiad.
In the Varsity "B" race, Freshman Tyler Hall and 8th grader Jack Bennett ran side by side to push each other all three miles into the finish line to finish 59th and 60th. Also scoring for Le Roy were Dan Washburn, Ed Englerth and James Waterman. Coach Jay Laitenberger said "Many of our Varsity "B" boys had excellent finishes, especially Dan and James, picking off several runners in the final straightaway".
In the girls' race, Janessa Shearer continued to lead the girls team with her 34th place finish. Her time was only 3 seconds off the best ever Le Roy girls time. Also scoring for Le Roy were Katie Hall, Chelsea Baker, Becky Wetzel and Jordan Wright. Everyone of the girls had their best time of the season on Saturday.
Coach Laitenberger said, "It was an exciting 90 minutes to watch the girls run their best times of the season, the "A" team place so well and win a lot of medals and ribbons, and the "B" team out-kick so many people heading into the finish line."
