Le Roy
Cross Country
Goes 1-2 On Notre Dame
|
OCT. 4, 2004 - Monday, the Le Roy Boys' Cross Country Team defeated Notre Dame of Batavia for the first time in recent history on Le Roy's home course. Freshman Tyler Murray and sophomore Jake Sullivan followed the game plan perfectly and finished first and second overall. Junior Brandon Weig came on strong at the finish line to finish 4th, just edging out Notre Dame's second runner. Jim Schwab and Patrick O'Halloran had solid races to finish in the top 9 and ensure the team's victory. Coach Jay Laitenberger said, "We knew the first third of our season was going to be rough, but a race like this one really helps the team's confidence heading into October."
Janessa Shearer ran through pain and injury to finish 3rd overall. She was followed by Katie Hall, Chelsea Baker, Becky Wetzel and freshman Jordan Wright in a tough loss to a talented Notre Dame girls' team. Janessa has been leading races all season and has her individual goals set very high for the end of the season.
Both teams are home again for the Le Roy Invitational on Saturday October 9th, then again in a very important league meet on Tuesday October 12th against Holley, Alexander, Dansville and Mount Morris.
