Cross Country Team
Gets Bogged Down In The Mud
On Tuesday, September 30th the Boys' and Girls' Cross Country teams hosted 4 of the top teams in the league. The rain over the previous days made the course slow and slippery. The woods section especially resembled a mud slide more than a high school cross country course.
The Boys' Team was coming off a very impressive race at Saturday's McQuaid Invitational where Jake Sullivan and Jim Schwab both won ribbons. Jim dropped over two minutes compared to his time there last year. Also running very tough at McQuaid was Andy Judge who dropped over a minute from last year.
The boys had high expectations going into Tuesday's race and had an excellent game plan for defeating Livonia and Attica. Livonia had many of their top runners returning that had been upset last year on their home course by Le Roy. Jake Sullivan had a typically solid race and chased after the top Livonia runners. Also scoring for Le Roy were Josh Lang, Jim Schwab, Riley Carhart and Andy Judge. All of these boys dropped their time by over a minute each compared to the last home meet 2 weeks ago. "It seems like last year we were on the winning side of all of the close meets, and this year we seem to be on the flip side. I have to keep reminding myself that the team is made up of mainly freshman and sophmores," said Coach Laitenberger. The boys' team lost Livonia and Attica by only a couple of points.
In the girls race, Janessa Shearer continued her domination of opponents with her 7th place finish and dropped her time by over a minute and a half. She finished with the top runners from Attica, one of the favorites to win Sectionals. Janessa is in a tight run for a League All-Star and her impressive run against Byron Bergen Tuesday only helps her case down the road. Also chasing after an All-Star position at the end of the season is Christina Malley and Chelsea Baker who had strong races on Tuesday. Also scoring for Le Roy were Sarah Wetzel and Robyn Dixon.
Janessa finished 35th at Saturday's McQuaid's Invitational to be the first Le Roy girl in recent history to win a medal at this highly competitive race. There were well over 300 girls competing in that event.
PLEASE NOTE: Saturday is the Le Roy Invitational - race time starts at 10:00 for Modified, 11:00 for Varsity.
