MAY 6, 2002 - Fred McCutchen has had a lifetime of community planning. His last position was that of Community Planner for Livingston County. He initiated the first comprehensive plan known as the DAN plan. D stands for development, A stands for agriculture, and N stands for natural resources. He has now woven his expertise in land management with childhood memories. His book "Trillium Hill" is a bit of a David and Goliath story where a group of six children ranging from 12 years old to 16 years take on outside developers and entrepreneurs of the community. The book richly describes life in a small town in the 1940ís; boyhood pranks, fresh bread from the oven, families who sat down and ate together and youngsters who worked by helping out at home.
The book will hold the interest of readers of all ages. It describes how young and old meet the challenges of life successfully. "Trillum Hill" is available at Bonatelís Book Store, Milex in Caledonia and Avon, Geneseoís Sun Dance Books, and The Bookstore in Warsaw.
After living and working in several towns around New York State, Fred and his wife Betty have chosen Le Roy as their retirement home.
