Over the summer the DPW put roofs on the gazebo on the creekbank, the pavilion at Wildwood Park and the pool building. Thank you to everyone involved with taking care of our flowers on Main St. and the creekbank, they looked amazing all year. Main St. Has now been transformed in the spirit of Halloween, with the help of Don Branton for his donation of the corn stalks, the business’s who put up the creative scarecrows. Do not forget to vote for your favorite scarecrow on the LBC Facebook page. There will also be an event sponsored by the LeRoy Business council Fresh Committee on Oct 29th from Noon to 3 on Main St. The traditional “Trick or Treat” will be held on October 31st. It seems hard to believe it has been 12 years since a rookie Mayor canceled Halloween. With Leaf season please try to keep the leaves on the terraces and sticks out of the piles this will help our DPW get more done faster. In the past we have had no night time parking beginning November 1st. the board will be looking push that date back into December, further details to come. But before I answer this question you need to know a little about me. I am an 88 year old professional photographer. I have traveled the world from the Artic to the Antarctic and places in between photographing animals in their natural habitat. I have published two children's books : "The Fox Family" and "What If Animals Could Talk". In both cases the story lines are illustrated with animals photographed on my property. I no longer am able to travel to photograph and rely on animals coming to me. I keep a portion of my property wild to encourage "visitors" I enjoy watching doe and fawns interact with each other. Or my cat and a fawn checking each other out. I have been told by several people that a farmer applied for a Nuisance Permit which allows deer to be killed out of season and that is exactly what has happened. I spend hours out doors each day working on my property and have not seen what I would consider a nuisance. I have never seen more than two deer at a time on the property. I look foreward each spring for the deer to return. There has been a fawn born here for the past several years. This is the first year that I have not seen one dear on this property. This makes me sad. I understand that farmers are in business to make money and deer eating their crops could be a problem. But I must ask, "How much of a problem?" Does the small number killed really make a difference monetarily? Money should not be the main goal here. Living in harmony with your neighbors should be. With that said, I hope I get to enjoy the deer next spring. Sheila Williams Nelson
