President Christine called the meeting to order with The Pledge and 4-Way test, along with introduction of guests, Cody Offen, President Elect of the Rotary Club of Fairmont, WV and guest speakers Luke Weaver and Becky Elmore of LeRoy Recreation and Oatka Festival Committee. Announcements included Mary Young-Murray about The Walk of Hope August 13th from 7pm to 11pm at Hartwood Park, Martha Bailey about our annual Backpack Club food collection event at Save-A-Lot parking lot onAugust 24th from 5pm to 7pm. and President Christine updated the club that the Rotary Hot Dog Stand fundraiser at the Oatka was a huge success and she would have more details at the next meeting. Being President Christine’s first meeting, her fining session was light. Larry Boylan, Mike Tucci and Betsy Halvorsen were fined for missing the Installation dinner where fines were collected in honor of The Walk of Hope. Each were fined $20 which will be donated to the Walk of Hope in August. Guest speakers for the day were Luke Weaver and Becky Elmore, Co-Directors of LeRoy Recreation and Becky Elmore also President of the Oatka Festival Committee. First, Becky gave the club an update on the success of the 2022 Oatka Festival, which due to Covid had been on hiatus for 2 years. She said it was good to be back and have a strong festival again. The parade was a success and the vendors and charities that participated had a banner year. Becky wanted to emphasize that the money raised from the vendor fees and sponsorships goes to running the festival which helps them keep family activities like the rock-climbing wall, mechanical bull, and the giant inflatable slides free to families which she hopes were enjoyed by all. Next Luke and Becky spoke to the club about the Youth Recreation Program which is sponsored by the Town of LeRoy annually. Luke said that Recreation employs over 40 young adults to run the programs at the tennis courts and Wildwood Park and lifeguard at the LeRoy Pool. Individual and family pool memberships are available at the pool on Munson Street for purchase. Recreation also offers many camps and swimming lessons. All registration was moved to an on-line format this year and can be accessed through the Town website at leroyny.org. President Christine thanked the guests and all in attendance for coming and making her first meeting a wonderful success.
