LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - JUNE 26, 2022 Spend local and enjoy all that our area has to offer! Feel good about the places you support and patron! by Greg “Porp” Rogers Oatka Festival is back! July 16th and 17th LeRoy will be back open for festival business after a 2-year absence. Hopefully we get good weather, but regardless we should all support and enjoy this community bonding event. Last Saturday the family of Tom Spadaro held a celebration of life in Tom’s honor at the community pool. The pool house was named the “Tom Spadaro Pool House” to honor Tom for all his contributions and work to the pool. It was truly a great event, to honor an outstanding LeRoyan. The Village Board would like to thank EVERBODY for the efforts involved to keeping this pool up and running for years in our community. On July 20th we will be holding a public hearing regarding a sewer billing increase. This is not an easy thing to do, but it is necessary. Wastewater treatment, is a utility, just like gas, electric and water it is a necessity of life. Unfortunately, it is also tied in with all those just mentioned and when those costs go up, we are forced to do the same. It has been seven years since our last increase. During the past seven years the national average for this service has gone up 20% which is our intention also. The sewer budget is what’s called an “enterprise account’ this means every year this account has to balance, to have the dollars collected meet the actual dollars in cost to operate and maintain the plant. With this plan the Village Board and the Sewer Board feel this is proactive in trying to stabilize the bill well into the future. The meeting will be at 3 W. Main at 7:00 pm. School is out and that means more children on the streets, please take extra precautions driving around. If you see acts of vandalism, please report this, because it will not be tolerated. We want to keep our village in great shape so everybody can enjoy what we have to offer. Recently, we have had concerns over the conditions of our sidewalks. This has been a concern of the Village Board for years. In the last 10 years there has been over a million dollars spent in our community on sidewalks. We recently had a company come in and grind down spots to even them out. If you have a trouble spot, please call the village hall at 7682520 and we will see what we can do to fix it. Enjoy the Summer. “Laugh when you can, apologize when you should and don’t try to change what you can’t”.
