The recreation department has been busy preparing for all of the summer programs, as well as hiring staff. Look for updates on the new town website as well as the LeRoy Rec page on Facebook. Construction on the new spray park will begin as soon as the weather breaks, and the materials are delivered. One of the primary jobs of the Supervisor and the Board is that of being fiscally responsible and sensitive to the needs of the community. As many of you have heard from surrounding towns that undertook reassessments this year the numbers were truly scary. While reassessment only sets the market value of the property and the Town, County, Village and School set the tax rates in the end it results in a tax increase for the vast majority of people. Given the economic state and inflation rate and real estate prices presently in the country, the Board and I have decided not to do a reassessment at this time. While that may not mean an increase in some tax rates it is our hope that this will mitigate some of the financial burden on taxpayers. Over the next several months we will be looking at ways to fairly reassess properties while not putting an excessive burden on property owners. As always, our meetings are open and we welcome anyone to come and participate and contribute ideas. Hope to see everyone dressed in spring attire around town soon. Around Town Martha Bailey, LeRoy Women of the Moose presenting a check to the Town of LeRoy, Mary Margaret Ripley to benefit Pool Scholarships for families this summer. The Women of the Moose hold various fundraisers throughout the year and pass the proceeds on to those in need. This donation will help with pool membership costs.
