LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - DECEMBER 26, 2021 by Greg “Porp” Rogers It has been a busy year at 3 W. Main. The year started with the retirement of Police Chief Chris Hayward after 33 years of service, and on the same day Detective John Condidorio left as well, over 60 years of experience out the door. Greg Kellogg has taken over the chief’s job and hasn’t missed a beat, and has really brought a new energy and new ideas to the department, and seems to be working out great. Officer Emily McNamara has taken over John’s position and she is thriving as well. One of the first things both chiefs had to do was have a committee to review police protocol and arrest procedures. Done. About that time the village began plans on East Ave. to develop the street and single-family houses with a PUD for a duplex senior living complex that went on until November taking up a lot of time and energy. Next came the surprise retirement of Sharon Jeary, another 30+ year veteran with the village and 20 years as Clerk-Treasurer. She has stayed on to assist in training Eileen Carmel who took her spot. Eileen’s move to Clerk-Treasurer led the way to Katie Eick joining the team. The two ladies have done a miraculous job filling the big shoes left by Sharon. This seamless transition could not have been possible without everyone’s hard work and Chris and Sharon’s guidance. Summer brought great excitement about the possibility to bring in Great Lake Cheese Co. and its 600 jobs and 500-million- dollar project. Well, a lot of work for nothing they decided to go to Franklinville. However, summer also brought the complete renovation of Wolcott St. The project went off perfectly on schedule and under budget without any school disturbance. I believe it looks great. That was not the only project started this summer. The Wastewater Treatment Plant is undergoing a 12-million-dollar upgrade. The 60-year-old plant needed some love and attention and is getting it now. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our top-notch staff for the outstanding job they have all done through this trying year, as well as my fellow board members. Thank you to Andrew Lathan for again putting up the Christmas tree, it has become a great tradition and we are lucky to have him and his crew do this, so we can all enjoy the holiday season a little more. The fireworks will be back on New Year’s Eve at 9:00 sponsored by the LeRoy Business Council, one more step back to normalcy. “If your determination to succeed is strong enough, failure will never overtake you.” O.G.
