LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - NOVEMBER 7, 2021 Submitted by Joseph Bogue On Sunday the LeRoy Junior Knights (8-0) went to Caledonia to to play the Dansville Junior Mustangs (7-0) in the CYFL Championship. The game featured the highest scoring team in the North division vs the highest scoring team in the south division. However the offenses would not be the story on Sunday. Dansville won the toss and started on offense. For the Knights Coach VanGalios defense started a little slow as the Mustangs put together an 8 minute drive to start the game. Moving the ball all the way to the Knights 12 yard line before Andy Murphy stepped in front of a Mustang pass for the interception giving the ball to the Knights. The Knights offense which usually finds running lanes all over the field would not be so fortunate on Sunday. Every yard was earned as the Dansville defense swarmed the ball carriers on every play for the entire game. The two teams would go back and forth for the entire first half. Each team finding a little momentum then having an it taken away by the defense. The first half would end 0-0. The Knights would come out in the second half with the ball and seemed to find some room running inside. As they marched down the field Dansville soon adjusted and just like the previous drives this one stalled at the Dansville 35 yard line. The Mustangs took over and found out these Knights were still hungry and ready to fight for another 20 minutes. The teams went back and forth before the Mustangs offense struck first. A 15 yard run into the end zone. 8-0 Mustangs Now with the clock winding down in the 4th quarter the Knights needed to put together a scoring drive to force overtime. Starting at their own 35 yard line the Knights put together a drive fighting for every yard and slowly moving down the field. That's when Ryker VanGalio dropped back to pass but with his receivers covered he scrambled right found a lane and sprinted in to the end zone for a Knight's touchdown !! The Knights now down 8-6 with 39 seconds left still had all 3 time outs and a chance to get the ball back with hopes of still pulling this one out. A tumble on first down set the Mustangs back. On 2nd down a short gain and the Mustangs were facing a 3rd and long with 30 seconds left. That's when they found some room outside and picked up a first down ending the Championship hopes for the Knights. It was the first loss for the Knights this season but a hard fought game against a very good Dansville Junior Mustangs team. The Knights took this loss with their heads up and congratulated their opponents on their victory. These players gave everything they had at every practice and in every game this season and it was an honor to coach them Your 2021 LeRoy Junior Knights. #1 John Amico,#5 Blake Biracree, #6 Ryker VanGalio #7 Jaiden Biletski, #8 Dylan Loftus, #11 Andrew Murphy, #12 Brianna Porcelli, #13 Andrew Sibley, #14 Ryan Crissy, #15 Cameron Montesano, #16 Logan Corcimiglia, #17 Elijah Yaw, #21 Camden Weber, #24 Jace Beauchamp,,#32 Blake Fetzer, #33 Thomas Englerth, #34 Samuel Bogue, #37 Owen Nichols, #50 Mason Doran, #53 Benton Biracree, #56 Connar Hanley, #59 Cole Cray, #62 Maddox Finnin, #70 Jackson Hubbard, #74 Stone Husted, #77 Wyatt Whipple, #79 Eonjay Robinson, #84 Eli Kemp, #98 Nathan Conte, #99 Carter McClurg..
