LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 17, 2021 The October 6th lunch meeting of the Rotary Club of LeRoy was brought to order by President Ben Deragon. The Pledge was led by Jerry Aron and all recited the Four Way Test. The guest was Ava Gephart, daughter of Rotarian Christine Gephart. P r e s i d e n tABe nAr emi nd e d Rotarians of upcoming events. The Community Kitchen continues to offer dinners on Tuesday evenings. The Appliance Raffle, Rotary’s biggest fund raising event, is scheduled at the Pavilion Fire Hall on October 24th from 1-5pm. Tickets are $10.00 and are available from any Rotarian. Come join in on the fun and help support Rotary’s many community projects. Rotarians are urged to attend the October 20th Village Board meeting. The Wildwood Park Project will be discussed. Get ready for another fun holiday season! The Rotary Club of LeRoy will again be sponsoring a Holiday Light Contest. Start planning now for what should be a great show of lights and decorations. It was another fun Rotary Fining session. Christine Gephart was fined for purchasing Ava’s first car. Agreen ex-police car! LuckilyAva was present so she could graciously accept a bumper sticker, “Caution Blind Driver”. Randy Vink was fined for surviving his first ever Hurricane in Texas. Randy’s description “….there was a gust of wind and a drop of rain” Fined for being an official Texas Hurrican survivor. Betsy Halverson recently went to her camp at Long Lake. Ben shared a picture of her wearing a Ghost Buster Gate Keeper Shirt. Another five dollars in the coffer. Scott was welcomed back from his recent business trip. Seventeen days 3 states. He coughed up a hefty fine for a new name tag. Bob Carlson was fined for what else, the Yankees! New York lost to Boston last night and of course Bob explained in detail the ensuing playoff games. Bob’s prediction, SanFran and Tampa Bay. Mike Tucci was not so forgiving of his Yankees. He was pretty bitter about their recent loss and was forced to block a former neighbor from chirping about the Red Sox. Tim Moag was fined for Jen Noble’s upcoming speaking engagement with Rotary. Jen has launched Farm Drop of Western New York. It is a dedicated to supporting local growers and producers by making their products available online to local communities. Bob Bennet shared his prediction for the Kansas City Buffalo game on Sunday night. Bob predicts a high scoring game with Buffalo winning by a field goal. This week’s guest speaker is our own versatile Mary Margaret Ripley. Mary Margaret, who has been at it for 20 years (canning that is) spoke about the art of canning. There are two types of canning, pressure and hot bath. Non acidic foods are pressure canned, acidic foods utilize hot water bath canning. Mary Margaret advised all who can to utilize old tried and true recipes particularly from Ball. She also shared an example of a beautiful herb bouquet. She spoke about drying herbs by hanging them upside down and then grinding them in a coffee grinder after they have dried for a week.
