LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - SEPTEMBER 26, 2021 LeRoy Junior Football It was a battle of unbeaten teams on Saturday when the 2-0 LeRoy Junior Knights went to York to take on the 3-0 York Juniors Knights. With both teams averaging just under 30 points per game this was looking like it would be a shootout. The LeRoy Junior Knights Defense was on a mission to make sure that didnt happen. York won the toss and started with the ball. Cam Weber set the tone early for LeRoy's defense smashing through the York offensive line and tackling the running back in the backfield. Carter McClurg would make the stop on 3rd down forcing a 4th and 15. York feeling frisky went for it and Dylan Loftus was not having any of it. Shedding a block and taking out the back for a 5 yard loss. LeRoy ball at the York 20 yard line. Sammy Bogue took the pitch from Ryker VanGalio and followed his fullback Carter McClurg around the corner to the York 3 yard line. Careless penalties would push the LeRoy team back and eventually the drive stalled with no points. York's next possession was a lot like the first. 1st and 10 turned in to 4th and 20. The LeRoy Defense was proving to be too much. Blake Fetzer, Ryan Crissy, Brianna Porcelli and Andy Murphy were imposing their will on the York Offense. LeRoy took over again deep in York territory. After tough runs by Carter McClurg and Blake Fetzer the quarter came to an end 0-0. The 2nd quarter started with a Sammy Bogue run through a big hole created by Stone Husted and John Amico and in to the end zone for a LeRoy touchdown !! Down 6-0 York would look to find some life on offense but what they found was Ryker VanGalio, Wyatt Whipple, Owen Nichols, and Andrew Sibley waiting. Midway through the 2nd quarter LeRoy started and finished their next drive with Mason Doran hitting the hole at full speed weaving through the York Defense for another LeRoy touchdown !! Sammy Bogue took a pitch and ran behind Jackson Hubbard and Eonjay Robinson in to the end zone for the point after. 13-0 LeRoy. And that's how the half would end. Starting the 2nd half with the ball LeRoy looked to put the game away. Carter McClurg starts with a run up the middle for a nice gain to get the drive going And that's when the Ryan Crissy show started. On the next play Ryan followed Andy Murphy around the corner 65 yards for another LeRoy touchdown!! On the conversion Ryker VanGalio dropped a dime in the end zone to Sammy Bogue. Now up 20-0 the Defense was fired up and looking for a shut out. Both ends were sealed off by Dylan Loftus and Ryker VanGalio leaving York to only run up the middle. That's the teeth of the LeRoy Defense. Blake Fetzer, Big Ben Biracree, Cole Cray and Brianna Porcelli were locking the middle of the field down. Feeling desperate York tried going to the air. Dropping back and under pressure from VanGalio the York QB threw the ball up for grabs. Unfortunately for them Ryan Crissy was in the right place at the right time for the interception. LeRoy had the ball and looked to put the game out of reach. However a couple false starts and a fumble the York Knights were back in business. Now with new life they found a hole up the middle. With nothing but green grass in front of the York running back the crowd started to scream. That's when Sammy Bogue turned on the jets and took the running back down at the Knights 20 yard line. Seeing life in the York Offense Coach VanGalio screams Cleveland Cleveland. Thats when the big guns come in for LeRoy, Fetzer, McClurg, Loftus, Murphy, and VanGalio. R plays later the York Knights were walking away empty handed again. With the 4th quarter approaching fast the LeRoy Knights turned back to Ryan Crissy. And he turned in another highlight. 72 yards around the left side for another LeRoy touchdown!! Now the LeRoy Junior Knights could breath a sigh of relief. Up 26-0 with time winding down the game was in hand. LeRoy will take a 3-0 record in to this week's match up at home with Geneseo.
