LeRoy Juniors Football Submitted by Joseph Bogue On Saturday September 11th The LeRoy Junior Knights faced off against their bitter rivals The Cal-Mum Junior Red Raiders. Before the game the two teams put their rivalry aside and came together to observe Patriot day with players, Coaches and fans wearing red white and blue. The game started with the Red Raiders on offense moving the ball on the Knights defense with a combination of runs and passes. Before they knew it the Knights were in unfamiliar territory with Cal-Mum threatening to score on the first drive of the game. That's when Cam Montesano, CamWeber and the rest of the Knights defense put their foot in the ground and started to push back. The Red Raiders went from 1st down on the Knights 30 to 4th down on the 38. On the next play Ryker VanGalio and Ryan Crissy teamed up to stop the Red Raiders and force a turnover on downs. When the Knights explosive offense took the field they realized very quickly this wasn't like every other game. The Red Raiders came to play and the Knights would have to fight for every yard. As Thomas Englerth, Stone Husted, Jackson Hubbard, Carter McClurg made their way to the line the Red Raiders were there waiting and ready for 40 minutes of battle. Runs by Sammy Bogue, Blake Fetzer, Ryan Crissy and Blake Biracree moved the ball in to Red Raider territory. The Knights soon faced a 4th down and looked to Ryker VanGalio to pick it up. A tough run behind Dylan Loftus and a trio of running backs and the knights were back in business. First down at the Cal-Mum 25 yard line. That's when the Red Raiders made a stand of their own and 4plays later the Knights drive stalled. The first quarter was winding down and both teams knew they were in for a long night. The second quarter started and finished just like the first with both teams flexing their muscles on defense and the offenses scratching their heads The half time score was 0-0 and the message was clear. It's gut check time. The Knights big play offense has been shut down for the first time and they needed to dig deep. The second half started and the question was which team could make to he necessary adjustments to pull this game out. The answer came quickly. After the Knights went 4 and out on their first possession. The Red Raiders took over and 1 play later Cam Weber closed in on the Quarterback and came away with the football. Knights ball at mid field. 3 plays later Sammy Bogue took a hand off up in to the middle of the defense and followed blocks by Maddox Finnin and Eonjay Robinson from there he bounced it to the outside and the race was on. Touchdown Knights !! The Red Raiders took over looking to get their offense going but they were met by a fired up Knights Defense. Andy Murphy, Wyatt Whipple, John Amico and Blake Biracree were attacking the ball and forcing a turnover on downs. Knights ball. After a QB sneak by Ryker VanGalio the Knights turned to another of their dynamic running backs. It was Fetzer time. A fake hand off up the middle created a little hesitation in the defense and that's all Blake Fetzer needed. An end around and Blake went untouched to the end zone. Touchdown Knights !! Now up 12-0 and the 4th quarter approaching quickly the Knights knew this was no time to let up. The Red Raiders came out with time running down and needing 2 scores and new life on offense. An end around got their speedy back running down the sideline looking at the end zone. That's when Sammy Bogue came out of nowhere and tracked him down. With a big collision at the Knights 25 yard line the Red Raiders were feeling good and looking to score. That's when Coach VanGalio called for some back up.Thats when Ben Biracree, Jaiden Biletski, Mason Doran Brianna Porcelli and Eli Kemp stepped in and shut down the Caledonia offense. With the clock winding down and the ball deep in their own territory the Knights turned to their power back Carter McClurg to carry the load and run the clock out. This game was a slugfest between bitter rivals. The Knights walk away with the victory and a ton of respect for a tough well coached Junior Red Raiders team. The 2-0 Junior Knights hit the road Saturday for a showdown with the 3-0 York Juniors Knights
