However it’s important to remember what the day truly represents. It is the day set aside to pay respect and to thank those that have paid the ultimate price for our country. Let’s not forget the families that are left behind as well, that will never be the same after the loss of a loved one. For them the solemnity of the day will never be forgotten. So amid cookouts, celebrations, and preparations for summer don’t forget the individuals and families that have paid the ultimate price in defense of our nation. As Memorial Day approaches I have had many questions about our recreation program and the opening of the pool. Let me first say that at this time we are planning on having rec. and opening the pool. Both of these things will be done with whatever the latest guidance is from the State. For the latest information check the LeRoy Rec. Facebook page or check the Town website. There will be some changes to both programs this year due to staffing and budget constraints. We will not be operating the Rec. program in the evenings, Rec . will end at 5:00 pm. Based on the number of kids involved, as well as facilities, we are focusing the majority of our activities at Wildwood this summer. There will still be Rec. workers at the “courts” however with the construction that will be taking place on Wolcott St. access may be difficult. Those will be the only 2 parks that will be staffed by rec. this year. At this time we plan on opening the pool on Friday June 25. That date may change based on health department regulations as well as staffing of lifeguards. We will not be able to offer swimming lessons this summer due to a shortage of lifeguards. In order to staff the open swimming hours it is not possible at this time to offer lessons. Finally on Monday June 7th there will be a joint Village and Town Board meeting at 7:00 pm in the court room of the Town Hall. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the recent legalization of Cannabis in New York State. Municipalities have until December 2021 to opt out of the commercial sale of Cannabis in their communities. The public is welcome to attend and provide input. Hope to see you at the meeting and around town. Around Town
