On opening day the Yanks battled back from an early 5-2 deficit to win in walk off fashion in the bottom of the 6th inning by a 10-9 final score. Colin Greene started on the mound for the Yankees and recorded 4 strikeouts. He was relieved by Drew Beachel who pitched 3 plus great innings of relief to pick up the victory. Offensively for the Yankees Michael Warner led the way 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Anthony Warner added an RBI double and Drew Beachel and Matthew McCulley added base hits. The Red Sox were led by Evan Rose and Isaac Stella who both scored 3 times. Evan led the game off with a hard hit triple to center field. Evan Rose, Carter Paige, Daniel Winters and Paul Winters all had 2-hit games for the Sox, and Ethan Rose, Andreas Condidorio, and Blake Fetzer added singles. Evan Rose was the starting pitcher for the Red Sox and stuck out 7. He was relieved by his younger brother Ethan. On Monday the Yankees were back in action again this time against the Twins. They once again found themselves in an early deficit but battled back for the win. Anthony Warner was the starting pitcher and recorded 5 strikeouts in 3 innings of work. He was followed by Matthew McCulley who struck out 4 in 2 innings. Michael Warner came in for the sixth inning and fanned 2 to pick up the save. The back and forth game was filled with excitement as the Twins jumped out in front in the first on an RBI triple by Jude Christ. The Yankees struck back with an 8-run third inning highlighted by and RBI double off the bat of Anthony Warner , and consecutive RBI’s from Nate Pangrazio, Michael Warner, Blake Biracree, Colin Greene, and again by Anthony Warner in his second at bat of the inning. The Twins closed the gap to one run when Kade Olivani drove in 2 runs with 2 outs in home half of the 5th inning. With the tying run on second base, Michael Warner made a great stop on another hot smash off the bat of Jude Christ to end the threat. The Yankees were led offensively by multi- hit games from Colin Greene, Anthony Warner, Matthew McCulley (including a booming triple to deep left field), and Michael Warner. Drew Beachel and Liam Ortiz also added big hits for the Yanks. McCulley score three runs. In addition to the big hits by Christ and Olivani – Donovan Gaillard, Colton Hallady, and Eddie Lathan collected hits for the Twins. Jude Christ was the starting pitcher for the Twins and was relieved by Eddie Lathan and Kade Olivani. Orioles 21 Tigers 5 The 2021 Little League season officially started with an opening day match-up of the Orioles and the Tigers. Brady McClurg recorded the first hit of the season with a triple to start the game which jump started the Orioles offense. With a pair of walks and another triple by T.J. Chrissy the Orioles jumped out to an early 4-1 lead at the end of the first inning. From that point on it was almost all Tigers as Tommy Clifford came in to start the 2nd inning and pitched lights out and the Tigers bats also came to life. The 2nd inning saw the Tigers put up 6 runs with a huge 2 out rally that gave them a lead they would not let go of. 7 of the 9 Tiger batters recorded a hit in the game and all 9 got on base as they would eventually finish with a 21-5 victory on opening day. Top performers were Benito Bautista who went 5-5 at the plate. Also Tommy Clifford, Jeremiah Sheehan, Dominic Miller and Reece Pryzbyl all recorded 3 hits as well. Clifford also only gave up 1 run in 5 innings on the mound while striking out 9. Red Sox 7 Twins 2 The Red Sox and the twins met in the last game of what was a beautiful opening day. The Red Sox coming off a tough loss in game one of their opening day double header were really in need of pitcher Isaac Stella to step up big. That he did going the full game in 72 pitches striking out 12 and allowing only 5 hits. The visiting Sox got their bats going first scoring 2 in the first with hits from Evan Rose, Isaac Stella, Carter Page and Daniel Winters. The Sox added 2 more in the 3rd from hits by Stella, Page, and Pauly Winters. The twins would score their only 2 in the bottom of the 4th with key hits from Jude Christ, and Colton Halliday. The Red Sox would tack on 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th to make it 7-2 Sox. Hitting for the twins were Donovan Gaillard, and Peyton Privetera with a double, Jude Christ, Colton Halliday, and Jamison Zitz each with a single. Hitting for the Sox were Evan Rose with 2 singles, Stella with 2 doubles and 2 singles, Carter Page with 3 singles, Daniel Winters with 2 singles, Paul Winters with a single, and Andreas Conidorio with a single.
