Three local LeRoy wrestlers paced AREA 47 Wrestling Academy at Journeyman’s NYS Youth Wrestling Championships. The event was held on April 1st in Manhiem PA at the Spooky Nook sports complex. Mazzy Beardsley, Lo Beardsley and Nutter Stiles anchored the 12 person team that trains at the D&R Depot sponsored A-47 facility in LeRoy. Mazzy Beardsley participating in the youngest and lightest class of the tournament at 6U 45lbs placed 3rd in a Round Robin format. After falling to the eventual champ in bout 1. Mazzy came back to win via pin in her second match. In her final bout of the day “Mazzy Moo” scored more points than anyone else in the entire field of over 800 participants. Her 26-13 victory gave her a 3rd place podium spot and a toothless grin than will bring happiness to anyone. Lo Beardsley is the #1 ranked female at 55lbs in NYS. Lo is well know in the wrestling community and has won admiration wherever she has participated. The Journeymen format pitted 9 year old Lo in a 10U bracket against mostly all boys. Then she had a rare loss to another female phenom Pearl Jewett (VHW) who bested Lo 4-2 in OT. Lo fought for wins on the backside and ended up finishing 4th in an extremely competitive field. Nutter Stiles competing in a 16 man bracket in 10u 78lbs received a bye as the #4 seed. In the quarterfinals Stiles up-ended a gamey T. Shank (PABA Spartans) 6-1. In the semifinals Nutter faced #1 seed R. Zarbo (NWAA). Zarbo’s attacking style fed right into Nutter’s wheelhouse for a 13-1 victory for career win #99. In the finals Stiles faced Brett Levine (Team Dynamic). After a 2-2 first period stanza Levine proved himself to be too much in a 10-2 win. Nutter takes a solid 2nd place against stiff competition.
