Youth softball in LeRoy has been steadfast for decades, in the local community. Offically incorporating in 2020 as a 501(c)(3), it has seen a resurgence with a fresh group of eager volunteers including: sponsors, parents, board members and coaches. The David M. McCarthy MemorialAFoundation recognizing the importance of youth sports in the local area, can be added to list of vital contributors. The David M. McCarthy MemorialAFoundation established in 2006 after a tragic car accident took the life of Batavia native and sports enthusiast David "Davey" McCarthy. The Foundation's primary focus is to support youth sports in Genesee County, which David loved so much. Last summer, LeRoy Youth Softball was able to safely conduct several months of skills, drills and inter- squadAscrimmaging. This winter our program has been holding safe indoor clinics for girls who meet the 8U up to 16U criteria. The 2021 season is already upon us with registration open now through February 28th. As the program continues to grow, larger equipment purchases are necessary, which includes a pitching machine. The contributions fom the David M. McCarthy Memorial Fund will assist with that purchase. by Greg “Porp” Rogers We have been dealing with COVID 19 for almost a full year and financially we are still very much up in the air. States and counties are waiting for a bail out from the Federal government. I remember when the American way was to tighten your belts and watch what you spend and work your way out. It has been my goal to keep these articles upbeat and positive, so I will say we look to be headed in the right direction, with sports back on at school and more and more vaccines coming from many different sources, it can only help to get us closer to a new normal. The hardest hit, are the small businesses, so please make a conscious effort to support them whenever you can, I’m sure they will appreciate it, and shopping local is the best way. The Village is still looking to do a Wolcott Street reconstruction project, and received bids last week, however, the Board has not awarded the bid and is looking for options to get done what we need at a more affordable rate. The Village has accepted bids to complete our Wastewater Treatment Plant renovation, so this project is finally moving ahead and should be completed sometime 2023. Please continue to wear masks and social distance and we will all make it through this tough time. “ What seems to us to be bitter trials, are often blessings in disguise” Oscar Wilde Mayor's Corner
