Make Fall Festive T11H110A by James Farnholz Supervisor, Town of LeRoy (585) 768-6910 ext. 231 I hope this column finds everyone safe and healthy as we navigate the uncharted waters of Covid this fall. Please continue to be safe and take all of the necessary precautions against Covid not just for you but for others safety as well. While on this subject the Governor has issued an executive order requiring local municipalities in certain areas to increase enforcement of Covid restrictions or face a $10,000 fine. LeRoy is not presently on this list. However it should be noted that gatherings of more than 50 people, regardless of whether it is inside or out are prohibited. Please be aware of these restrictions as the Genesee County Department of Health will enforce them. Fall is also the Town Board’s busiest time as it prepares the budget for next year. Some good news on this front is that the county legislature has promised to disperse $675,000 in revenue sharing to the Town of LeRoy next year. While that is still short of the 1.2 million promised for 2020 it does help a great deal. That being said there are still a great many challenges in the preparation of next years budget. I am very aware of the financial hardships that the Covid pandemic has caused many of our residents. That was foremost on my mind as I prepared the tentative budget I presented to the Board at our last meeting. In that budget we have been able to dip into our cash reserves as well as taking other measures that will result in maintaining services and avoiding any layoffs. The question of course is how much are my taxes going to go up. In the budget I presented(which could change) the result is a 2 cent per thousand increase. Meaning the tentative cost per thousand will go from $1.08 to $1.10 for 2021. We will be holding a public hearing for the budget at the October 22nd board meeting. Please feel free to attend and give us your input. There will be copies of the tentative budget there for your review. The Board will be voting on the 2021 Budget on November 12th, as State law requires the budget to be passed prior to November 20th. Please feel free to contact me or any of the Board members with any questions you may have prior to the public hearing. I hope to see many of you at the meeting and around town Around Town
