LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - JULY 12, 2020 by Greg “Porp” Rogers It is with heavy heart that I tell you (which everybody probably already knows) of the passing of Village employee and longtime crossing guard, Myrtle Burrell. Myrtle’s career with the village started in the 1984 when she was a dispatcher, then continued on to safely cross our children at Main and Wolcott Streets. Two positive things come out of this. First the outpouring of respect with flowers on the corner, she took charge of. It shows the kind of respect and love spread over decades can do and mean to a community. The wheels are in motion to permanently honor her there, when I know more, so will you. The second was the circumstances in which Myrtle met her demise and the action taken by the newspaper carrier. In these times let’s, as a community take time to reach out and look for our neighbors, especially the elderly and be proactive when something may just seem to be a little off. In my columns I try to bring out all the good things that come with living here. I think we can do a little more towards being better neighbors. Sometimes you can appreciate what you did after the fact. Two years ago, Bob Lathan and his crew fixed the dam gates by the Creekside. With our current dry spell, we may have had a really ugly setting on the Oatka Creek. Unfortunately, under the Governor’s Covid 19 guidelines we are forced to do another Zoom meeting on July 15 at 7 pm the link is below, unfortunately the meeting can only last 40 minutes.
