LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - MAY 10, 2020 by James Farnholz Supervisor, Town of LeRoy (585) 768-6910 ext. 231 I hope that this week’s column finds everyone healthy and adjusting to our ever changing situation. To that end I will try to bring everyone up to speed on what we know at this time and moving forward. To start, we will be attempting to hold our next Town Board meeting on the 14th via Zoom. We will be posting all of the necessary details on the Town website . The Town Court is still closed and will remain so until May 30th as per the State’s orders. The transfer station is open on Saturdays only at this time. Dump passes may be purchased at either local hardware or by leaving a check in the town drop box and we will mail you a pass. As a phased reopening begins please be aware of social distancing and whatever the new pause orders look like. I have received several calls about violations of the State’s pause orders and whether or not they are code violations. They are not. If you feel the need to report pause order or social distancing violations they are a law enforcement matter and should be referred to the appropriate agency. One of the things we have gotten the most questions about is the summer recreation program. The city of Batavia has already cancelled their program. The subject has been and is a topic that all of the towns and villages have been discussing. At the present time we are in a wait and see mode. We will take our guidance from the State and the Genesee County Health Dept. Whatever that looks like will be what we will do moving forward with both the recreation book and the recreation program. Keep in mind that it is possible that both the rec. program and the pool may not happen this summer. To be hopeful and proactive though we will be accepting applications and conducting interviews for ALL recreation and pool positions. So that if we can open we will have a staff ready. While much of this is news that is not what many want to hear, let’s keep some perspective on why these steps are necessary. It is to keep people, especially our most vulnerable populations healthy. Hope to see you both healthy and at a safe distance around the town.
