LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - AUGUST 25, 2019 LeRotary Notes It was a beautiful summer day as Rotarians gathered for our weekly lunch. President Mary Young rang the starting bell and our meeting was on. After the Pledge of Allegiance, prayer and the 4-Way Test we welcomed guests Don Hickel and our speaker Jesse Held. There were a few announcements. Martha Bailey reminded everyone that on Saturday, August 17th we will be collecting food in the Save- A-Lot parking lot for the Back Pack Program. Some other dates to remember: our Rotary Club picnic will be on September 15th and the Rotary Day of Caring is September 28th. Don’t forget the Rotary Community Kitchen on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Come for a wonderful meal and fellowship. And of course, volunteers are welcome. There were three Rotarian birthdays this month. Jerry McCullough, Samantha Vagg and Bob Carlsen were honored with our purposely off-key and out-of-tune rendition of “Home on the Range”. President Mary went through the missed meetings quickly. There were no fines for missing but Rotarians offered excuses and make-ups anyway; Phil Plossl spent the morning waiting for the phone repairman, Tony Gugino was at the Jersey shore, Bob Boyce had an appointment and Merritt Holly, Martha and Tracy Ford had make-ups. President Mary had better luck with the fining session. Martha’s puppy Conan, has been leaving “presents” for Martha to step in, Tracy has a new daughter-in-law, and Bob Carlsen was fined for attending his 70th reunion from Arcade High School. Carol Wolfe was fined for an old photo of her grandchildren, Jason Karcher had to pay for all of the traveling he recently did for work and Tony contributed for that Jersey Shore trip and a Bill’s excursion. The program was given by Jessica Held about “Empowered Arrow”. It is a local non-profit that is an empowering program for young men and women. It is designed to help develop a sense of self and a connection to the community. Partnering with the LeRoy Jr, Sr High School, the program is offered after school hours. There are three ranks of the Arrow Program; the Bow Rank for 7th and 8th graders, the String Rank for 8th and 9th and the Rest Rank is for 11th and 12th graders. The intention is to help young men and women to discover themselves, develop confidence and create a connection to their community. For more information visit www.empoweredarrow.org .
