She welcomed a special guest from The Rotary Club of Batavia, Bob Knipe. Bob is the President of the Batavia Club. He spoke about an upcoming event, the UnitedWay Genesee Symphony Orchestra fundraiser. This event is taking place August 25 at The LeRoyan. Tickets are $75.00 per person. “It’s always great when we have Rotarians from local clubs visit our club!” Two new members were inducted into our club. Shannon Karcher was presented to the Club by her husband Jason Karcher. Shannon has already been contributing immensely to the Club. Now she is officially a member! Jessica Strollo, presented by Marcia McKenzie, has been active with the LeRoy Little League, will also be joining the club. Jessica is very involved in the community and will bring great enthusiasm to Rotary. Announcements were plentiful as always. President Mary presented Jim Bonacquisti with his new ID badge. Minutes later Samantha Vagg called on the assistance of Past President Bob Bennett. Apparently, Jim’s name was spelled incorrectly on his official badge. Of course, President Mary was fined $10.00 for this blunder ouch!! Rotarians were reminded of the upcoming Community Service Project, the Fill the Backpack program. The club will be collecting food at the Save A Lot parking lot on August 17th. The collected food will be used to fill children’s backpacks to assure adequate food when they are not in school. Samantha Vagg announced the upcoming Milne Board meeting on August 14th. Christine Gephart reminded Rotarians of the next two LeRoy Rotary Community Kitchen meals, August 13th and 27th. Missed meetings were quickly taken care of. Most Rotarians do tons of Rotary work during the month to make up for missed lunches. The following Rotarians were noted for missed meetings: Jim Bonacquisti, Jim Ellison, Jason Karcher, Tom McGinnis, Marcia McKenzie, Tim Moag, Andy Rich, Samantha Vagg, Randy Vink, Bruce Baker, and Larry Boylan. The only questionable miss was Jim Bonacquisti who, with another Rotarian who’s name will be revealed next week, played hooky and went to the Bill’s training camp together. The weekly fining session was fun as always! Tim Moag was fined for an adorable picture of him and his grandson. His son’s family was visiting recently from out of state. Andy Rich was fined for an interesting picture of him in one of his thespian roles. His acting career seems to be really taking off! Jim Ellison was shown a picture and was fined for delegating two women to “repair” his car which had broken down. Bruce Baker was shown a picture of his “house sold” sign. Bruce shared with the club his and Nancy’s plans for the future. We wish them happines. Samantha Vagg was fined for her habit of taking daily naps to avoid the bad mood trap which has been difficult lately with her busy work schedule. Our guest speaker today was Jim Ellison who spoke about a program near and dear to his and his wife Joan’s heart, CHERA. The Rotary Club of LeRoy has been providing funding for this international program for several years. Jim has traveled to Uganda on several occasions to give assistance to this worthwhile program. The Community Health and Education for Rural Africa works to transform healthcare delivery and educational opportunities in the Rwenzori region of Uganda. CHERA supports a local medical clinic which focuses on obstetric and pediatric medical care. Rotary funding helps provide medical care to pregnant women to stop the HIV virus from being transmitted to their child as well as a year of educational opportunities for one orphaned child. The Rotary Club of LeRoy is proud to support this worthwhile international project. If you are interested in learning more about Rotary, Visit leroyrotary.org. Visit Our S howroom at 651 E.
