Mike Darby's Patch & Paint by Stephen Barbeau Supervisor, Town of LeRoy (585) 768-6190 ext. 231 We would like to officially welcome Joel Offhaus as the newest member of our High- way Dept. Joel brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in highway matters to this excel- lent group. Our 2018 audit is com- plete and, once again, the report found “no significant deficien- cies nor material weaknesses”. We continue to be in good finan- cial shape as we enter the 2020 budget development season. I have been informed by Genesee County Economic De- velopment Center that a transac- tion at the Oatka Hills Commer- cial Park, on North Rd. (near the water pump station), is nearly complete. Wendt Propane will be setting up a distribution cen- ter at that location. The plan is for five of the eleven acres be developed for the business with the remainder to remain natural. Another commercial venture in the town, in an area designated for such, is a welcome addition (future addition to the tax base and a few new jobs created). As our youth rec program begins, remember that the bro- chure program is also available on our town web site. Another positive by-product of our pro- gram is that we employ nearly thirty (mostly) college and high school LeRoy students during the summer. In doing a little more re- search and hearing from some additional folks on my Asiago, Italy, column last month, it ap- pears we can add the Paganin name to the list of LeRoy fami- lies who may trace their “roots” to that town. Asiago itself is sit- uated in northeastern Italy on a plateau about 1,000 ft. above sea level. The population of 6,500 is slightly smaller than LeRoy’s. Asiago is a ski resort destina- tion (due to its elevation) even though it has a more temperate climate than LeRoy. There was also a large WWI battle that took place there that is marked by a large memorial. Have a safe and happy In- dependence Day and see you Around Town. Around Town Community Garden The LeRoy First Presbyterian Church opened its Community Garden on Memorial Day. Located behind the church, there are nine 16 square foot gardens available to lease for the summer. The church also grows vegetables for the Food Pantry. Everything is provided for gardening and there is also a rest area. The garden was made possible by Grant awarded by the Genesee Valley Presbytery.
