LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - FEBRUARY 10, 2019 This week’s Rotary meeting began with President Jim welcoming all Rotarians who braved the cold, cold weather on this blustery January day. Our meeting began with The Pledge of Allegiance, a grace, and the Rotary Four-Way test. With school being cancelled due to the weather conditions, we did not have any high school seniors as guests. The membership did welcome back Bob Boyce and Jim Frascati from extended absences. There were many announcements and service opportunities available for members. Our Big Game TV raffle will take place on February 2nd at the American Legion. On February 9th, a community service painting project will be held at the Hope Center with a social to follow. Rotary bowling night is scheduled for March 15th and on the 22nd, we will support the Interact Club at their annual alumni basketball game. Of course, we will “Be the Inspiration” the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month as the Le Roy Rotary Community Kitchen serves dinners at the Masonic community center on Bank Street. Please remember that on May 10th, Batavia Rotary will hold their centennial celebration and save the 17th of May for the Rotary Graze To Raise fundraiser. President Jim welcomed back all those with missed meetings. Steve Falitico recorded 10 misses, with two service makeups, he rendered 8 green cards. Eric Fix ponied up for 2 misses. Bob Bennett was excused, and Betsy Halvorsen paid with a green card. Scott McCumiskey was excused with a board meeting makeup and Bruce Baker as a senior active. Fining began with Jim Frascati, first after receiving his new name tag, and then again for the awesome tours he provides his guests. Bob Boyce received an appliance raffle T-shirt for a small fine as did Betsy Halvorsen for selecting a red Rotary T-shirt. Steve Falitico paid for his family trip to Disney World. Jason Karcher was happy to pay for a montage of photos his daughter put together for her brother. Randy Vink generously paid for a photo of movie night with the grandkids. And the last fines went out to Eric, Bob, Tom, and Martha for not wearing their name tags. Martha claimed her classification is not correct. Eric, Bob and Tom had no excuse! President Jim ended up paying for all of them in accordance with guidance from Past-President David. With such inclement weather today, our program was filled in by President Jim holding a question and answer session on The State Of The World according to Hans Gosling who wrote Factfulness: Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World-and Why Things Are Better Than You Think. We were enlightened with the answers! Remember to like them on Facebook at "Rotary Club of LeRoy" or visit leroyrotary.org for more information. 8700 Lake Rd.
