President Jim Ellison brought the meeting to order, and the club introduced the guests, Steven Drexler, the President-elect of the Brockport Club, and Justin Cogswell and Nicole Diguardi from Veterans Helping Veterans as today’s program. President Jim Ellison announced upcoming events including Grants Training on Nov 10th, Christmas Tree Staking on Nov 18th with the Interact Club, Breakfast Meeting on Nov 29th, our Christmas Party on Nov 30th @ Guginos’ and Rotary Leadership Institute on 12-1-2018 at Niagara County Community College. We recognized Bruce Baker for observing his 55th anniversary of joining Rotary! That might be a record for our club. Bob Bennett summarized his very successful 30th Annual Appliance Rafflewhichwas held October 28th. He recognized various members for their proficiency at selling tickets including Martha Bailey, Bob (Sully) Sullivan, and Nanette Chiulli. We recognized Bob for his 30 years of leadership. Once again, the event was successful enough financially to fund the majority of our giving back to our community for the rest of this Rotary year. President Jim also announced upcoming service opportunities for the club and whoever from the community would like to join us. The Rotary Community Kitchen needs volunteers to serve a free meal on November 13th and November 27th. In the near future, we’re planning to ring the bell for Salvation Army and also planning to collect clothes for the victims of Sexual Assault in conjunction with other clubs in our area. The “winners” for missed meetings today included: Tammy Arneth, Martha Bailey, Nan Chiulli, Mike Tucci, and Tracy Ford. Most had make- ups. The fining session began with President Jim asking Nan Chiulli about her running career which “isn’t in full swing yet”. Carol Wolfe played polio trivia and learned that the period of time over which Rotary reduced the number of countries with polio from 122 to 3 is 30 years. Martha Bailey also played trivia and learned that 17.5 million people were prevented from contracting polio due to the Polio eradication effort. Today’s program was presented by Justin Cogswell fromVeterans’HelpingVeterans’ Operation Buildup program. He repairs donated vehicles and then presents them to veterans in need. He showed a video of the Mike Rowe’s “Returning the Favor” project highlighting his efforts. He has completed over 100 vehicles since 2016 and made many veterans happy. They are looking for funding to cover the costs of a refurbished garage in Conesus. Please think about helping with this crucial program.
