LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 28, 2018 Superintendent's Column Le Roy Central School Students, Parents, and Community Residents: Since October 2015, the Le Roy Central School District has partnered with multiple experts to maintain the upkeep, health, and preventative maintenance of all our trees including the English Copper Beech which stands between Woodward Memorial Library and the Wolcott Street School. Library records indicate that the beech tree was transplanted to Le Roy by the Woodward family children in 1930. At that time, the tree was already believed to be 37 years old. As you can imagine with the tree’s estimated age of 125 years old, there is a need for further preventative maintenance work to ensure the health and safety of the tree on our campus. The District has installed a fence around the perimeter to keep students and the community safe while the work is being completed. Therefore, we are asking all students and district residents to stay behind the fence and not sit, walk, or play under the tree. The preventative maintenance work is scheduled to take place in early November and the fence will stay up well into the spring. There is a possibility with the tree’s current health and condition that the work being completed may not be enough to deem it safe. If this is determined to be the case in the spring, the tree may have to be taken down. In the meantime, plans are already in place to do a “cutting process” from the tree in the spring (2019) to genetically reproduce an identical match. This process does not damage or hurt the tree in anyway and only a small cut is taken which would allow us an opportunity to plant and grow an identical tree (or trees) at another location on our campus. The “cutting process” is being donated and comes at no cost to the District. If you have any further questions, contact me at school anytime. Thanks. Merritt Holly Superintendent of Schools On Tuesday, November 6th , we need to exercise our right to vote. Over the last monthmany of us have recieved the glossy political mailings. They came from Mike Ranzenhofer, Steve Hawley, Nate McMurray and Chris Collins. Three candidate's mailings stated their positions, what they have accomplished, and asking you for your support. However, the flier sent from Chris Collins never stated any accomplishments, postions, or pledges to his constituents. The fliers just attacked with distorted facts. It is time that voters matured and moved past labeling candidates by party affiliation. We need to vote for the candidate that best defines our beliefs in honesty, integrity, character, goodness, and accountability. We need to be Voters For Integrity.
