LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 28, 2018 LeRotary Notes There was an autumn chill in the air as we gathered for our weekly meeting at The Greens of LeRoy. John McClurg from the Perry Club joined us as well as Debbie Vink from the Rotary Club of Watertown. Upcoming events included: District Conference: 10/20 Next LeRoy Rotary Community Kitchen: 10/22 Eastern Cities Dinner: 10/28 Rotary Appliance Raffle: 10/28 We are looking for a Rotarian to chair our Salvation Army Bell Ringing this year. Please see President Jim for details. Lauren Humphrey, Bart Dambra, Andy Rich, Randy Vink, and Christine Gephart were all called all for missed meetings. Bob Sullivan played Rotary Trivia, and lost. Tom McGinnis paid up for a beautiful picture that surfaced of him and his granddaughter. Sam Vagg was fined for a picture of her under a waterfall that became a metaphor about rushes of blessings and greatness. Our program today was an update on our Youth Services presented by Christine Gephart and Sam Vagg. Our EarlyAct Program is open to all students in grades K-6 and meets on the third Tuesday of the month at The Wolcott Street School. Earlier this week, our EarlyActors, along with Resource Officer Mattingly place red ribbons on Main St to create awareness about upcoming “Healthy Choices Week”. The students’ goals are to emulate caring, respect, empathy, responsibility, tolerance, citizenship, companion, friendship, and leadership. Our Interact Program is open to all students in grades 7-12 and meets on the second Thursday of each month. Our students are planning on continuing and growing our “Hometown Heroes Project” from last year as well as several other projects. Our first project is “Christmas Around the World”. The students in grades 7-12 will stake Christmas trees in the Wolcott St Creek Bank, and each tree will be assigned a country. Grades K-6 will decorate the trees based that country’s culture, customs, and traditions. Our goal is to educate our students and communities about other cultures and to increase holiday traffic to LeRoy. You can learn more about this and other projects on our Facebook page: LeRoy Jr./ Sr. High Rotary Interact. Remember to “like” us on Facebook: “Rotary Club of LeRoy”. Connect withYourCustomers!
