If you have any questions about this informa- tion, please call the assessor’s office at 768-6910 ext. 221 or 584-3850 ext. 204. 1. Property owners currently receiving Enhance or Senior exemptions will receive a renewal in the mail with in- structions as usual. This will now include a mandatory IVP (income verification) form. Existing IVP participants will still receive a postcard as usual. 2. First time applying for BASIC STAR (less than 65 yrs. old and income less than $500,000)- must sign up with State at 518-457-2036 or www.tax.ny.gov 3. Changing from BASIC to ENHANCED- assessor has the forms necessary- must be 65 yrs. old and meet income eligibility- have your latest tax return and driver’s li- cense- IMPORTANT- anyone turning 65 before 12/31/19 (note the date) should call the assessor’s office before 3/1/19 (note the date) 4. Some of us have also start- ed receiving “rebate” checks from the State. As a reminder, this is a state “program” in the second of three years that comes as a result of your local taxing jurisdictions staying below their tax levy caps. Go ahead and cash it, it was yours to begin with! Last week, I also presented the 2019 Tentative Budget to the Town Clerk and Town Board. Initially, this called for a .05 tax rate decrease (5.5%). However, I caution anyone about this early rate. The Board will now go to work on revising this tentative plan and we all ready, subse- quent to this submittal, have received some new information on NYS revenue decreases in certain areas (thus, cost increas- es to us). So, I mention this only in the respect that we are at a good starting point in being able to provide a stable tax rate for our eighth consecutive year (I am optimistic). I will keep you informed.
