LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - JULY 8, 2018 LeRoy Little League 11U All-Star Baseball Le Roy 6 Batavia 5 The LeRoy 11U All-Star Baseball team faced Batavia in a best two out of three series for the District 3 championship. Luke Lathan would get the start on the mound for the home team Le Roy All-Stars. In the first inning Le Roy short stop Xavi- en Walker would turn a double play to hold Batavia scoreless in the top of the first. Le Roy would get going offensively in the first after Xavien (X-Man) Walker, Adam Woodworth, and Jake Higgins all singled. Bat- avia would battle back in the first stranding the three Le Roy hitters on the bases to keep the score 0-0 after 1. Both teams remained scoreless in the sec- ond. In the third, Xavien Walk- er would again lead off with a single. Jake Higgins would then drive the ball through the gap in right center to double and score Walker. After 3 complete innings Le Roy 1 Batavia 0. In the fourth Batavia would an- swer with 2 runs of their own. With the bases loaded and 2 outs, Luke Lathan would bat- tle the Batavia batter striking him out to get Le Roy out of the inning, now down 2-1. In the bottom half of the forth Le Roy would battle back. Luke Lathan would draw a walk, followed by a Chase Cummings single. Austin Bogue would then drive a ball to right center field hitting the fence for a 2 RBI triple. Wy- att Draper then had a sacrifice RBI to score Bogue. Walker then added another hit in the in- ning, stole second base, and got to third base on a passed ball. Adam Woodworth would then single to score Walker. Wood- worth scored in the inning on some aggressive base running. Jake Higgins would then walk, steal second, advance to third, but would be left on base. Af- ter 4 complete innings Le Roy was back on top 5-2. Le Roy would hold Batavia scoreless in the 5th, and add a run after Luke Lathan drew a walk and was later scored on Wyatt Drap- er RBI single to put Le Roy up 6-2. In the top of the 6thBatavia would make it interesting scor- ing 3 runs to make the score 6-5 before Le Roy reliever Xavien Walker would strike out the last batter for Batavia. Le Roy 14 Batavia 4 In the second game of the best two out of three district championship, Le Roy would get the bats going early and of- ten in the top of the first. Xavi- en Walker and Adam Wood- worth both drew walks. Jake Higgins then hit a 2 RBI single to center field to score Walker and Woodworth. Austin Bogue then singled and was scored on a Wyatt Draper double to the gap in right center field. Jude Sherman would then reach base after a dropped third strike. Holden Sullivan then hit a 2 RBI single to score Draper and Sherman and put Le Roy up 6-0. In the bottom of the first Xavien Walker took the mound for Le Roy and would allow one run on one hit, while striking out 2 batters. In the second in- ning, Jake Higgins would again drive the ball to center field this time doubling. Higgins would be left on base and Le Roy was held scoreless. Le Roy pitch- er Xavien Walker would again strike out 2 in the second but not before allowing 1 run to Batavia. After 2 innings Le Roy 6 Batavia 2. In the top of the third, Watt Draper singled, followed by a Xavien Walker single. Adam Woodworth then singled to load the bases. Jake Higgins would then hit a line drive 2 RBI single into the right center field gap to score Drap- er and Walker. Woodworth and Higgins would be left on base with the score now 8-2 in fa- vor of Le Roy. Walker would strike out 2 for Le Roy and keep Batavia off the board in the bot- tom half of the inning. In the top of the fourth Le Roy would add another run after an Austin Bogue hard line drive triple rat- tled off the fence in center field. Bogue would score on a Chase Cummings sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 9-2 in favor of Le Roy. In the bottom half of the forth Batavia would get back on the board scoring 2 runs. Batavia’s momentum would be cut short after Jake Higgins ran in from first base to snag a pop fly and then made a heads up play to pick off the runner at third for a double play to end the inning. With the score now 9-4 Le Roy would add five runs in the fifth. Adam Woodworth and Jake Higgins, both singled. Luke Lathan then hit an RBI single to score Woodworth. Austin Bogue then drew a walk to load the bases. Wyatt draper would also draw a walk to score Higgins. Lathan, Bogue, and Draper would score in the inning after Jude Sher- man, Holden Sullivan, and Xavier Walker all drew walks. With the score now 14-4 Le Roy needed to keep Batavia off the board in the bottom of the fifth to win the game via the 10 run rule. Adam Woodworth now on the mound for Le Roy would dominate the next three batters striking them out and sealing the District 3 Championship for Le Roy.
