A’s 5 Twins 4 The second semifinal match-up of the Scanlan Cup playoffs would see the 5th seeded Twins face the 6th seeded A’s. The Twins had taken both regular season games in close fashion making this a very intriguing match-up. It didn’t take long for the fire- works. Jackson Fix would lead off the game with a homerun to left center, the first of his LL career to give the A’s a 1-0 lead. However, Twins starter Adam (Bucha) Woodworth would settle down and get the Twins out of the inning with no more damage as the A’s lead re- mained 1-0. Jackson Fix would gain the start for the A’s. He would get out of the first inning with no damage as the Twins would draw a walk but do no more as Fix got two K’s to end the inning. The A’s would put three more runs up in the 2nd. Kaden Berger would lead off with a single, Jordon Green would draw a walk and both would score on a Fix single. Back to back singles by Ryan Shirley and Zach Tooley would score Fix and the A’s would stretch the lead to 4-0. In the bottom of the third the Twins would pull close. Adouble by Elijah Iten and a walk to Bucha would start the inning. Both would score on a single by Jacob Iten to pull the Twins close 4-2. The A’s got an insurance run in the 4th as Fix would single and score on a Tooley double to extend the lead to 5-2. It proved to be a good thing, as the Twins put up two more runs in the bottom of the 4th. Evan (Boy Wonder) Rose would single to left to start the rally. A single by Bucha and walk to Jake Iten would set the stage for Tony Piazza who hit a crushing double over the right fielders head to pull the Twins closer 5-4. Piazza would come in to relieve Bucha for the twins and make quick work of the A’s bats. They would go down in order in the 5th and 6th, setting the stage for more fireworks in the bot- tom of the 6th. With one out, Bucha and Ja- cob Iten would reach on back to back singles. An intentional walk to Piazza would load the bases for the Twins with one out. Two pitches later, A’s pitcher Grady Gilligan would field a one hop- per and throw home for the second out. A’s catcher Ryan Shirley would whip around and throw to first to end the game with a 1-2-3 double play, to secure the A’s victory. Fix would combine with Tooley and Gilligan on the mound for the A’s. They would throw a 7-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 7 walks. Bucha Wood- worth and Piazza would combing to al- low 8 hits with 9 strikeouts and just one walk for the Twins.
